Climate Research Analyst

Do you want to help the insurance market understand the impacts of climate change? Do you enjoy applying academic science to industry applications? This role will be tackling both of these questions, and more, as part of a wider team addressing climate change topics! This is a hybrid role, working virtually as well as out of our London office.

    What the day will look like

    This role will be focussed on developing solutions to our current risk models to account for climate change, working across Aon to deliver climate analytics and help the business understand the impacts of climate change, and engaging with clients to deliver our climate analytics.

    A typical day will involve:

    • Analysing climate model data, as well as observation data, as part of specific projects investigating the impact of climate change.
    • Running our risk models and adjusting them to account for climate change.
    • Producing reports and presentations summarising the key results and presenting these to clients.
    • Staying up to date on the latest academic publications on climate science through academic engagements.
    • Keeping up to date with new solutions available within the market.

    How this opportunity is different

    Climate analytics within the insurance market have gone beyond top-level conversations about how climate change may impact the industry. At Aon, we’re developing solutions and providing analytics that address specific needs from clients in regard to climate change, creating adjustments to current models and translating the latest academic science, data and research into practical applications for the insurance industry.

    This role will be within the Climate Analytics team in London but also the wider global Climate Risk Advisory team. You will work across the business, with a range of clients and colleagues. You will need to collaborate with colleagues in different offices, working in different business areas, as well as with others within the market. You will also need to work with academia and third-party providers.

    Our work feeds directly into the risk models that form the basis of the insurance industry, with the results of our work being presented both to the client and incorporated into our conversations with clients regarding their future risk transfer needs. We sit within Risk Solutions, collaborating closely with brokers and client leaders.

    Skills and experience that will lead to success

    Key skills include:

    • A deep understanding of climate science, models and academic work.
    • Programming abilities (R/Python) that allow for the analysis of climate data.
    • An ability to translate complex academic work and analytics to those without a scientific background.
    • A willingness to work as part of a team delivering a range of solutions, as well as responding to client requests.
