We are looking for an experienced Commercial Managerto manage commercial risks and opportunities at both the pre- and post-contract stages of the Business in line with shareholder interest.
Key Responsibilities of the Commercial Manager:
Commercial Leadership:
- Involved in the entire commercial process, from bidding and winning large-scale projects to securing long-term framework agreements.
- Provide key commercial and business support to the Executive Team across Pre-Contract, Post-Contract, Value Engineering, and Procurement.
- Manage the commercial aspects of subcontract work within existing and potential projects to ensure optimal financial outcomes.
Risk Management & Compliance:
- Establish and maintain rigorous processes for identifying and controlling risks at both bid and post-contract stages.
- Review tenders from a commercial perspective, including terms and conditions, and seek external professional advice when necessary.
- Ensure financial implications of contracts are clearly communicated to internal stakeholders.
Legal & Premises Compliance:
- Oversee legal contracts, including negotiation when required, for office and factory premises, ensuring adherence to lease agreements, planning regulations, and health & safety requirements.
- Liaise with legal professionals on property agreements, insurance requirements, and any disputes related to premises.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant laws affecting commercial property and workplace operations.
Accreditations & Industry Standards:
- Collaborating with SHEQ/Compliance department to ensure the business obtains and maintains all necessary accreditations required to supply house builders, private developers, and social housing providers.
- Stay updated on industry standards and regulatory changes, ensuring compliance with key frameworks such as NHBC.
- Manage relationships with accreditation bodies, ensuring successful audits and renewals.
- Communicate accreditation requirements internally and ensure business processes align with compliance obligations.
Stakeholder & Team Development:
- Develop strong working relationships with colleagues, customers, suppliers, and stakeholders.
- Participate as a key member of the Senior Management Team to drive business improvements and employee engagement initiatives.
- Mentor, coach, and develop Project Quantity Surveyor(s), ensuring alignment with business objectives.
Requirements for the Commercial Manager:
- Demonstrated ability to oversee the commercial management of 10 - 20 projects ranging in value from £500k to £10m.
- Strong leadership qualities.
- Excellent inter-personal skills and commercial acumen.
- Demonstrated ability to make responsible and measured decisions.
- Highly proficient relationship-builder, able to influence at all levels.
- Excellent negotiation skills.
- Demonstrated ability to provide Executive Board and peers with pertinent counterviews whilst also being supportive and empathetic.

- Experience within a manufacturing environment desirable but not essential.
You will be MRICS qualified Professional Quantity Surveyor (PQS), ideally BSc Hons Quantity Surveying.
Having worked within a subcontractor organisation previously, you will have significant experience of dealing with some of the top 10 Main Contractors.
