Role:  Complex Needs Teaching Assistant

Location:  Westminster

Pay:  £95 - £110 a day

Hours: 8:30am – 4:00pm

Milk Education are seeking a talented, driven and passionate individuals to provide teachers and the SEN team support as a Complex Needs Teaching Assistant.

We are in partnership with a special secondary school in the London Borough of Westminster for pupils aged 11-19 years old with Complex needs and associated learning difficulties including, speech and language or hearing loss.

This school is a unique, supportive community made up of exceptional young people, parents, staff and governors. Each student at this school has an individual Education Plan which is written in collaboration with the school, parents/carers and the student, detailing how their emotional, social and education needs, described in their statement of SEN or their EHCP will be met.

Complex Needs Teaching Assistant Duties & Responsibilities:

  • To work under the direct instruction of teaching/senior staff, in and out of the classroom to consistently support children with additional needs. Working with individuals, groups of children and classes.
  • Establish productive working and nurturing relationships with pupils, according to individual needs, acting as a role model and setting high expectations
  • Organise appropriate learning environment and resources, including corridors, shared space displays and learning walls
  • Monitoring, assessing and recording pupils’ work as directed by the teacher.
  • Promote, comply with and assist with the development of policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting concerns to an appropriate person.
  • Be a pro-active and solutions focused member of the team. Someone who will contribute to the overall ethos and aims of the school modelling a can-do approach.
  • Provide feedback to pupils in relation to progress and achievement, including in the moment feedback, coaching, marking and correcting misconceptions
  • Promote independence and employ strategies to recognise and reward achievement and develop self-esteem.

Complex needs Teaching Assistant must haves:

  • Evidence of successful experience in a special school provision with pupils with SEND , behaviour and SEMH needs.
  • Must be capable to provide personal care, support the administration of medicine and support with feeding
  • Confident user of ICT
  • Understanding of the National Curriculum and how to engage individuals with lesson that are relevant and hook them into learning
