About the role

We are looking for an experienced Cook to join our team and prepare delicious meals for our colleagues.

Cook responsibilities include being involved in setting up the menus and then preparing high quality dishes from scratch. You will work with a team of canteen assistants in the day to day running of a busy canteen/service counter that operates in a large warehouse. We cater for a headcount of up to 400 people over a 24 hour period. Maintaining excellent food hygiene and safety practices and standards along with maintaining high standards of customer satisfaction. The successful candidate will report direct to the Canteen Manager.

Working Hours: 37.5 hrs per week from 10.00 to 18.00 hrs, Sunday to Thursday which includes shift work and working some weekends subject to business needs. There will also be a requirement to assist with covering holidays and absence across all shifts, therefore, the ability to be flexible and work additional hours is essential.

Role Responsibility

  • Cooking and organising the kitchen and front of house service area
  • Ensure products and services in the colleague canteen are of the highest standards
  • Ensure freshness and quality of food at all times
  • Ensure there is good range and quantity of food for the colleagues on site
  • You should have the ability to delegate tasks to the team to ensure meals are prepared and presented in a timely manner
  • Utilise reports & data to identify opportunities to improve departmental KPI’s
  • Ensure accurate accounting, banking and recording of daily takings
  • Direct the team to maintain excellent food and service standards
  • Ensure efficient ordering of stock and check supplies against invoices and delivery notes, raising and resolving anomalies appropriately.

You will need

The ideal candidate will have an excellent attitude with good people skills towards customer service and canteen staff with a friendly outgoing personality.  The candidate must be used to working within a high pressured team environment. Ideally you will have a Culinary School Diploma or equivalent and have a real sense of pride in your cooking and presentation as well as relish the opportunity to put forward a variety of dishes to go on the menu. You will have experience of working in a busy, multi shift kitchen environment providing quality food. The ability to work to legal compliance and the due diligence with ideally Food Safety level 3 qualification and excellent understanding of Health and Safety.
