Position: Cost Accountant Location: Leeds Salary: £45,000 per annum Position Type: Permanent
Elevation Senior Finance are seeking an experienced Cost Accountant to join a well-established finance team in a fast-paced environment. This role is crucial in supporting the Financial Controller by ensuring accurate profitability reporting and identifying opportunities for profit improvement.
Key Responsibilities of the Cost Accountant will include:
- Cost Analysis: Responsible for analysing and reporting on costs above Gross Profit, including purchase price variance, scrap production variances, and variable expenses
- Standard Costing: Developing, understanding, and maintaining standard costs to ensure precise cost management and pricing
- Margin Review: Reviewing margins on sales orders is part of the role. Challenge margins where necessary to safeguard profitability
- Revenue Recognition & Project Costing: Perform revenue recognition for POC projects and analyse project costs compared to budget, ensuring financial accuracy
- Continuous Improvement: Collaborate with Operations, Purchasing, and Engineering teams to drive continuous improvement programs aimed at reducing product costs
- Ad Hoc Requests: Handling various ad hoc requests, such as make/buy analysis and projecting cost roll impacts, will be expected
- Month-End Support: Support month-end and year-end accounting processes, including the preparation of journal entries and necessary analysis
- Inventory Management: Managing inventory, including reconciling inventory balances and calculating excess and obsolete inventory, is also part of the role
Qualifications & Skills Required:
- Essential: A CIMA/ACCA qualification, strong analytical skills, and proficiency in Excel
- Desirable: Previous experience in a similar Cost Accountant role, particularly within manufacturing, and familiarity with MRP systems
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain complex accounting concepts
- Analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities are essential
- Attention to detail and accuracy are crucial in this role
- Strong decision-making skills and the ability to influence others when necessary
