Salary: £36,413 - £53,994 per annum + TLR1b + Recruitment and Retention allowance

About Us:

Willowfield is a mixed, non-selective, non-denominational secondary school for pupils aged 11-16, located in Walthamstow, East London. The school provides 1020 places.

Willowfield moved to a brand-new building in September 2015, with state-of-the-art facilities including dance and drama studios, plus a wildlife garden. The move created 300 additional places for applicants in Walthamstow.

This exciting role includes leadership of the curriculum and teaching team of a popular subject with excellent resources. Maths is excellently supported by specialist teaching rooms, a full team of maths specialists and strong links with local and national maths networks. The vacancy has arisen as our current Curriculum Leader is progressing to a leadership role in a Maths Hub.

Key Responsibilities.

To be an excellent teacher and thereby act as an example to all colleagues.

To lead the mathematics department by:

  • Developing and implementing a rigorous and ambitious curriculum which enables the highest level of pupil progress across all key stages.
  • Inducting and training a team of colleagues who consistently deliver high standards of Teaching and Learning.
  • Ensuring all pupils receive a high-quality curriculum experience and achieve ambitious outcomes.
  • Creating and developing appropriate schemes of work, that deliver the curriculum as intended supported by lesson planning and assessment, considering different children's starting points
  • Ensuring that school policies are consistently implemented.
  • Ensuring that the Department Improvement Plan is implemented effectively.
  • Using data to improve accountability and intervention.
  • Ensuring that school behaviour policies are implemented effectively and colleagues are supported to do so.
  • Monitoring the available resources of space, staff, finance and equipment.
  • Supporting colleagues in monitoring the progress of all pupils, planning appropriate support and intervention.

In addition, to:

  • Support the professional development of teachers and participate in appraisal arrangements.
  • Undertake specific duties as agreed with the SLT line manager
  • Undertake such other duties as reasonably required by the Headteacher
  • Undertake all teacher responsibilities

Teacher Responsibilities:

  • The preparation and teaching of appropriately differentiated lessons and the marking of work arising from the lessons. The regular setting and marking of homework following the school/department policy.
  • To follow the schemes of work as required by the Curriculum Leader.
  • The assessment and recording of pupil progress as required by the National Curriculum, GCSE, school, and departmental policy.
  • To ensure good discipline in the classroom so that effective learning may take place and follow the school/departmental policy for rewards and sanctions.
  • Maintaining the classroom as a good learning environment, including displaying pupils' work and other material to stimulate pupil interest.
  • General responsibility for the condition of classroom learning materials, equipment, furniture, and fittings
  • To attend departmental meetings and to play an active role in the work of the department.
  • Attending parents' consultation evenings and cause for concern meetings etc..
  • To have regard for and promote the School's Equal Opportunities Policy and help pupils celebrate their own cultures and live in a multicultural society.
  • To be a form tutor and carry out the duties described in that job description
  • To contribute to the school's extra-curricular provision.
  • To contribute to departmental and school developments and reviews.
  • To participate in performance management.
  • To participate in appropriate training and development opportunities.
  • To follow all other appropriate school/departmental policies, including those related to safeguarding and health and safety
  • Other tasks as negotiated/delegated by the Curriculum Leader.
