Summary We’re looking for a Data Protection Office Assurance Manager to help support and develop this important compliance function. Our dedicated Data Protection team is part of the wider IT Assurance group, playing a key role in enabling the National Trust to deliver securely on its strategic objectives.  What it's like to work here

The Trust’s Data Protection Office (DPO) is a close-knit and busy team dedicated to the protection of personal data across all National Trust’s functions and activities. 

By putting individuals at the heart of everything we do, we help the Trust meet our compliance obligations in accordance with current legislation (UK General Data Protection Regulation / Data Protection Act 2018) and the guidance of the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).

This is a varied and fast-paced role that will involve working flexibly and independently to meet changing priorities, including having the ability to know when to escalate risks or issues.

Your contractual location will be our central office Heelis in Swindon where we meet on a regular basis as a team, However, there is flexibility on where you are based at other times. You will be required to work at a National Trust location for 40-60% of your working week. This will be discussed in more detail at interview.

What you'll be doing

Supporting the Trust’s Data Protection Office Leads and other key stakeholders, you’ll be responsible for the ongoing development and maturation of our Data Protection compliance framework, promoting accuracy, consistency and efficiency whilst keeping up to date with all relevant data protection legislation and best practice guidance. 

You’ll play a key role in assessing and embedding high quality compliance record keeping and effective accountability for data protection insurance across all areas of National Trust activity. You will support our response to internal and external audit assessments and drive continuous improvement in line with all relevant data protection obligations.  

You’ll also analyse risks and maintain policies and guidance - enabling effective training and best practice.

Who we're looking for

•Strong working knowledge of Data Protection and a respect for privacy, including in-depth understanding of UK GDPR principles; regulatory and legislative obligations and the risks of non-compliance as they apply to a large charity organisation such as National Trust; ideally supported by a recognised practitioner level qualification in Data Protection

•Proven track record of implementing Data Protection controls and accountability in line with relevant legislation

•Demonstrable skills and evidence of having successfully managed compliance using appropriate IT systems and processes 

•Interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal); able to liaise professionally with Data Protection Office colleagues; wider IT Assurance teams and key stakeholders at all levels both internal and external to the Trust and to act as an ambassador for the Data Protection Office

•Attention to detail, ability to multitask and prioritise tasks in order to meet deadlines

•The ability to forward plan, including anticipating future resource commitments and highlighting potential resourcing issues
