Job Description :

Reed Secure are working with Police Forces, who are looking to recruit Data Protection Officer.

  • Location: Flexible - Hendon / Sidcup / Lambeth / Central London.
  • Hybrid working - Minimum 3 days in the office
  • Full Time
  • Rate:  PAYE £24.38 / Umbrella £31.08
  • Contract Duration: 12 months with a potential extension
  • Proposed start date aims as soon as CTC vetting is granted (approximately 6 months depending on your case complexity)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Managing compliance with statutory requirements imposed by the Data Protection Act (DPA 2018) and the United Kingdom - General Data Protection Regulation (UK-GDPR);
  • Guide the completion of data protection documentation using the Data Capability Assurance Framework.
  • Guide the completion of bespoke Privacy Notices for Information Asset Owners/project authors;
  • Support the creation and review of data protection documentation and toolkits*.
  • Provide guidance on all aspects of law and legislation that govern the use of personal data, and where required, empower and support business groups demonstrating their compliance during audits.
  • Assist in data protection training, local and Met-wide - supporting data literacy within the organisation.
  • Engagement with all functions and directorates to enable effective and compliant management and processing of personal data including the Department of Legal Services, as required.
  • Manage expectations of key stakeholders in relation to the development of data protection documentation.
  • Support units within DDaT to ensure our data driven directive is built on a strong, compliant foundation.
  • Make an assessment whether a personal data breach meets the threshold for escalation and support with risk mitigation advice.

The post holder demonstrates the ability to:

  • Highly organised, capable to prioritising and tracking multiple demand within a busy environment to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Manage own workload and, once signed off after training, be expected to conclude low risk matters (enquiries and data protection documentation) independently.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to deliver updates to colleagues and senior managers.
  • Develop effective working relationships with staff at all levels in the Met and with our partners.
  • Be an effective and dependable team member to ensure shared tasks are delivered and the unit performance remains to a high standard.
  • Analyse complex information and circumstances to reach a logical, rational decision.
  • Articulate complex data law requirements in a clear and user-friendly way/format.
  • Articulate sound arguments with the right mix of assertiveness, diplomacy and citing relevant legislation, where required.

Essential Criteria:

  • Understanding and knowledge of the Data Protection Act (DPA) 2018 and UK-GDPR 2018;
  • Knowledge of Freedom of Information Act 2000, Human Rights Act 1998, European Convention on Human Rights, Protection of Freedom Act 2012;
  • Negotiation skills to resolve project management issues, including challenging, where appropriate, when a processing activity contravenes data protection legislation; and
  • Proven ability to work within a pressurised environment, be resilient and prioritise competing requirements effectively.
