DBA Database Administrator / Architect
Warsaw, Poland; hybrid with working from home 2-3 days per week.
30-35K Zloty/month - long term contract.
To be successful in this role:
You will be a confident and senior Database Administrator / Architect with 3+ years of experience as DBA in administrating and tuning RDS clusters or equivalent databases. Other requirements for this role include:
- Experience with Cloud and SaaS environments
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or related field
- Strong experience in database tuning (indexes, partitions, statistics) and performance troubleshooting, particularly in SaaS applications
- Proficient with Linux and database management in a microservices architecture, commonly used in SaaS deployments
- Experience in database management in a microservices architecture, ensuring high availability and scalability
- Hands-on experience with coding languages (e.g., Python, Bash, Java) for database automation in SaaS operations as well as on-premises
- Can do attitude: Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Very bright, fast learner, assumes ownership, independent and organised
- Innovative
- Excellent level of English
Whilst not essential, candidates with the following would be of particular interest:
- Understanding of public cloud vendors replication techniques and data warehouse design in a SaaS environment
- Experience with high availability, disaster recovery techniques, and scaling in SaaS ecosystems
Position summary:
The Database Administrator / Architect is a senior role reporting directly to the R&D Director and is a full-time position as part of the 10-person team in Poland. All roles based in Poland are contracted on a long-term consultancy basis which is paid by monthly invoice. We are still looking for someone who is very experienced, stable, confident, motivated and mature with great communication skills. Someone who wants to stay and grow with the company for the long term.
Job role and responsibilities:
As an experienced DBA you will work closely with development teams, offering guidance and mentorship to enhance database design, performance, and stability, with a focus on optimising capabilities in a SaaS environment. Other responsibilities for this role include:
- Review and approve development and testing design documents, ensuring they meet SaaS scalability and performance needs
- Oversee performance testing, both in collaboration with a performance lab and independently, adjusting parameters to ensure fast and reliable responses for front-end SaaS applications
- Contribute actively to conceptual database designs for new features, focusing on both back-end data organisation and front-end accessibility for SaaS users
- Participate in customer sessions to gather insights on real-world database usage and incidents
- Ensure that the Data Analytics system integrates key information from the database, supporting SaaS business intelligence needs
- Develop and maintain database documentation, including data standards, procedures, and metadata definitions, ensuring security and industry standard compliance with SaaS and on-premises data governance
- Enhance company Knowledge Base (KB) with SaaS-focused best practices and solutions
- Create training materials and deliver training sessions to development teams on database management
- Develop, manage, and test backup and recovery plans, ensuring high availability and disaster recovery for both on-premises and cloud-based SaaS deployments
- Conduct capacity planning for databases to meet services scaling requirements
- Regularly communicate with technical, application, and operations teams to ensure database integrity and security
- Commission, install, and customise new applications to align with functional and security requirements, and develop a roadmap for upgrading third-party databases with a focus on functionality and security in a SaaS context
- Act as lead figure in actual upgrades and migrations
- Manage database security and disaster recovery, with specific attention to both on-premises and SaaS setups
