Deputy Grounds & Gardens Manager - Heritage Site - Central London - £34k + Benefits
A beautiful heritage site in central London is looking for a Deputy Grounds & Gardens Manager to join its team. This heritage site is steeped in history and attracts a lot of interest from visitors and its on-site residents. This role is to deputise for, and to assist, the Head of Grounds & Gardens in the smooth running of the grounds and to carry out both skilled and un-skilled horticultural tasks.
SALARY ETC:
- £34,000 + excellent benefits including enhanced holidays, enhanced pension scheme, development, free and discounted events, etc.
- Full-time and permanent
- Working 41 hours (including paid for breaks) - Monday - Friday
- Central London
REQUIREMENTS:
- A solid knowledge of all garden machinery and its maintenance
- Experience working in a Heritage Landscape, or similar
- Basic plant knowledge
- Relevant experience in horticultural and turf culture practices
- A horticultural/Landscape management qualification Level II, or equivalent.
- To hold a safe use of ride on mower certificate, compact tractor certificate, safe use of chemical spraying certificate. PA1/6A
- Good presentation and communication skills.
- Good supervisory skills.

DUTIES TO INCLUDE:
- To assist Head of Grounds & Gardens in setting & monitoring individual team member objectives.
- To carry out day to day supervision & monitor timekeeping of Grounds & Gardens staff.
- To assist in the maintenance of horticultural machinery in-house and out-sourced. To record such maintenance work as dictated by H&S requirements.
- To assist in undertaking formalised risk assessments, health & safety checks, machinery checks, vibration and noise monitoring and formal fuel checks
- To use all horticultural machinery when required, this will include but is not limited to; ride on mowers, tractors, hedge trimmers, leaf blowers and various pedestrian machines.
- The use, application and recording of chemicals including pesticides, fungicides and herbicides and to maintain and update COSHH records.
- To carry out tasks such as mowing, pruning, planting, weeding and leaf clearing when required.
- To liaise with external agencies, contractors and stakeholders including RHS.
- Assist in managing the day-to-day operations of the Glasshouse incl. propagation and production.
- Manage the floristry requirements.
- Monitor and manage stock levels of PPE and sundry horticultural items
- To deputise for Head of Grounds & Gardens at the Heritage meetings and other meetings as required.
