Design Interface Engineer - Rail

Excellent opportunity to work for a Tier 1 contractor's Rail team supporting Network Rail projects.

Salary - £60,000 - £65,000 basic + Package

Locations - Bristol or Swindon

Hybrid working - 3 days in the office / site, 2 days working from home.

Role:

The Resolute Group are working in partnership with a Tier 1 contractor's Rail division to identify and secure a Design Interface Engineer to work on the Wales and Western routes. Working predominantly between Bristol and Swindon.

The Design Interface Engineer's role is the technical interface between the design consultancy, Tier 1 / Main contractor and Network Rail.

The Interface Engineer will manage the technical assurance for the GRIP processes, ensuring the designs meet Network Rail's standards and are delivered correctly on-site. The Design Interface Engineer takes the process from the design stage, working with the project delivery team, checking the buildability and addressing any highlighted issues.

All the projects are with Network Rail, the Interface engineer will possess experience of technical expertise and coordination on a diverse portfolio of rail infrastructure projects, including new build and refurbishment of stations, bridges, platforms, and associated civil engineering works.

This role does not cover major projects but projects up to £20m in value. Looking at multiple projects across the region, each at different stages in the GRIP process and you need to be able to effectively manage your project pipeline.You don't need to be a full-time Design Manager to be considered for this position.

Key skills you will need to be successful in this position:

Project engagement:

  • Interface and coordinate between multi-disciplinary design teams, providing technical guidance and support.
  • Oversee the coordination between the detailed design team and site-based stakeholders to ensure design compliance.
  • Manage and coordinate design variations and change requests, ensuring minimal disruption to project timelines and budgets.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders, including clients, contractors, and regulatory authorities, to ensure project alignment and update amendments if required.

Technical Expertise:

  • Ensure design compliance with Network Rail standards across all project phases.
  • Apply engineering principles to design challenges, such as Stations, Platforms, Embankments, Bridges and Tunnels,
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies to drive innovation and efficiency.

Risk Management:

  • Identify and assess potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to minimize project impact.
  • Conduct regular risk assessments and safety reviews to ensure compliance with safety standards.

Commercial Management:

  • Managing the process with the commercial team, focused on changes to the design programme.

Quality Assurance:

  • Implement robust quality control procedures to ensure the accuracy and completeness of design deliverables.
  • Review and approve design documentation to maintain high-quality standards. The role would suit an experienced Engineering coordinator looking to step up or a technical project engineer/manager

Required Experience

  • Degree qualified, Ideal in Civil engineering or related subject.
  • Post-graduation experience of working on Network Rail projects in a technical capacity.
