The Role:An outstanding opportunity has arisen for a Director level investment professional to join our UK Commercial asset management team working on our £9bn AUM portfolio. M&G's UK Commercial business is responsible for a broad book of real estate investment strategies on behalf of both internal and external capital partners. We invest and manage across all sectors including hotels, leisure and living alongside traditional office, retail and industrial property assets. These strategies are delivered by a team of investment professionals working in partnership with colleagues from the broader Real Estate team and within M&G's Private Markets division. Working as part of a close-knit UK Commercial team within a multi-faceted role, we are seeking a highly adept strategic asset manager who will drive performance through oversight of our asset management operating partners and managing agents, but also have the ability, if required, to directly manage a small number of assets. Further, the team members will represent M&G in client interactions and with proactively contributing to the overall fund strategy. The role will suit a capable individual with a strong grasp of strategic portfolio management, valuation and performance metrics, with experience overseeing operating partnerships to achieve investment objectives and maximise returns.
Key Responsibilities:At Director level the responsibilities are broad and will involve all aspects of investment and asset management. There is some scope to shape these having regard to sector experience and preferences. In broad terms the initial responsibilities will include:
- Managing and building key strategic relationships with joint venture / operating partners / managing agents and third-party service providers, to deliver investment objectives and provide direction for asset business plans, valuation and performance metrics, approvals and client reporting;
- Overseeing the identification and execution of repositioning, restructuring, refurbishment and alternative use opportunities across the portfolio, in accordance with the funds' requirements and asset business plans to maximise investment returns;
- For directly managed assets, responsibility for creating and implementing the business strategy, ensuring that all opportunities to enhance asset value are being pursued, building and managing relationships with the asset team and appointed consultants to achieve the agreed objectives and, overseeing the performance of asset strategies and initiatives against target returns;
- Supporting the transaction team on underwriting, due diligence reporting and the closing process for new acquisitions; leading activities for asset management on sales; contributing to wider investment initiatives to enhance and grow our business;
- Taking responsibility for timely and accurate production of internal and external reporting, valuation reviews, performance analysis, hold-sell-analysis and providing client updates.
Key Knowledge, Skills & Experience:We are seeking individuals who:
- Are confident, driven and adaptable, with the ambition and energy to drive value and maximise returns in an exciting phase of growth and evolution for our UK portfolio;
- Are highly numerate with strong analytical skills and attention to detail with the ability to drive progress, deliver business plans and achieve out-performance; a good level of proficiency in Excel and sound financial modelling skills is highly desirable;
- Demonstrate a track record across strategic asset management, with proven skills in developing, motivating and managing multi-disciplinary teams and multiple stakeholders including operating partners and managing agents;
- Are commercially astute with a broad range of skills gained from areas that might include valuation, finance, development, investment, leasing and legal fields, those with the ability to analyse complex issues, then develop and execute strategies that achieve results;
- Are strong team players and collaborators making a positive contribution, who thrive in a collegial environment and are able to work effectively as part of a wider, multi-cultural platform with an ability to draw together expertise from others to contribute to high quality decision-making;
- Have a strong work ethic - driven by results and achievements - with an appetite for a broad range of projects and initiatives;
- Demonstrate highly developed interpersonal, presentation, negotiation and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
