We are looking for….

A Director of Procurement & Supply Chain who will be responsible for leading the procurement function across the SGN Group, and for providing expert advice and guidance to the Executive on all matters relating to supply chain and how it can be leveraged to support group strategy and business plans.

This is a significant leadership role, which requires building strong relationships across SGN, particularly Operations, developing and implementing procurement policy and strategies that align with the company's business objectives, regulatory requirements, and sustainability goals. They will work closely with all group business functions, as well as corporate functions, to ensure seam-less procurement processes and compliance with documented standards.

Procurement Strategy & Vision - Develop, set and implement comprehensive industry leading procurement strategies that support all group business objectives, particularly relating to large regulated and unregulated programmes. Interpret and effectively articulate market trends, supply chain risk, supplier capability, and regulatory requirements to drive excellence and increase group value.

Commercial Management - Responsibility for all Pre/Post Contract commercial matters throughout the Project life cycle including cost planning, estimating, forecasting, project reporting and contract administration.

People - Lead the P&SC team with clarity of objectives, prioritising talent development, inclusion and diversity. Fostering a Great Place To Work.

Supplier Relationship Management - Develop, maintain and manage strong and enduring relationships with key suppliers to ensure the timely and cost-effective delivery of goods and services. Monitor supplier performance and mitigate risks to ensure supply chain resilience

Standards, Assurance & Compliance - Set appropriate industry leading departmental standards and maintain an assurance regime that provides a high level of confidence in our control environment. Ensure that all regulated procurement activities comply with the prevailing regulations. Specifically, ensure that all departmental activity complies with internal and external standards and legislation e.g. SHE, legal, financial, risk, ethics, quality

Continuous Improvement & Efficiency - Identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements within the procurement function. Implement best practices and innovative solutions to enhance procurement efficiency and effectiveness

Cross-functional Collaboration - Collaborate with all corporate functions and group businesses to ensure effective communication, alignment, and coordination throughout the procurement process. Bring together cross functional teams to drive collaboration and achieve shared goals

Sustainability and Innovation - Promote and implement sustainable procurement practices and drive innovation within the procurement function. Ensure that procurement activities align with the company's sustainability goals and contribute to long-term value creation

Cost & Risk - Procure at lowest ownership cost and in accordance with the principle of efficiency and best value in accordance with policy, procedures and processes. This includes covering all commercial, business and legal risks in contracts where practicable.

Category Management - Maintain a category management structure which demonstrates value leadership and supports the delivery of optimised total cost of ownership for the Group and its respective business units.

What you’ll need

Business Knowledge

  • Broad understanding of the Utility Sector in the UK and Europe and how an organisation like SGN works within the sector.
  • Understands the financial aspects and high level technical / engineering requirements of projects in the gas sector.
  • Fully understands the commercial impact of decisions and how procurement can influence outcomes.
  • Thorough knowledge of claims management on major projects / programmes of work
  • Deep knowledge and experience of complex contract structures and standard forms
  • Extensive experience of supplier development techniques and the management and development of complex supplier relationships.

Personal Attributes / Competencies

  • Degree in business, quantity surveying, supply chain management, or a related field and/or extensive demonstrable experience in a comparable role
  • 10-15 years of experience in procurement or related roles, within a plc or similar, with a proven track record of leading successful procurement & commercial teams
  • Strong people management skills with an ability to secure commitment on actions
  • Strong leadership, negotiation, communication, and teamwork skills
  • Capability to gain commitment and "buy in "with excellent communication skills.
  • Enthusiasm and drive with a flexible approach to work and an ability to adapt to changing business and project priorities
  • Effective in engaging and co-ordinating multi-disciplined resource, both internally and externally
