  • The role involves leading and managing a team of Team Managers and operational staff, fostering a high-performance culture through effective development and motivation strategies. You will be responsible for upholding stringent health, safety, and environmental standards in all engineering activities, conducting regular audits and inspections to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Overseeing daily maintenance and repair operations, you'll ensure adherence to service level agreements and response time targets. Budget management is crucial, requiring you to oversee and optimise project budgets for gas network maintenance while balancing financial targets with operational objectives.
  • Stakeholder engagement is a key aspect of the role, involving collaboration with internal departments and liaison with external partners, including contractors, landowners, and regulatory bodies, to facilitate smooth operations and maintain compliance through effective communication.
  • The role encompasses a strong focus on continuous improvement, requiring you to identify and implement enhancements in systems, processes, and engineering practices to boost safety, efficiency, and reliability across operations. A critical aspect of the position involves leading teams during emergency incidents, where you'll be responsible for ensuring effective management and swift resolution of critical situations.
  • You will serve as a technical expert, providing valuable guidance on complex engineering challenges. In this capacity, you'll be expected to develop and recommend technically sound solutions that align with company standards, supporting the team in overcoming intricate technical hurdles and maintaining the integrity of engineering practices throughout the organisation.

What you’ll need

Essential Qualifications:

  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in an engineering discipline
  • IOSH Managing Safely certification

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Progress towards a professional engineering qualification

Essential Experience and Skills:

  • Proven track record managing engineering teams in safety-critical environments
  • In-depth knowledge of pipeline maintenance systems and regulatory compliance
  • Exceptional problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making abilities
