Lecturer in English (GCSE and Functional Skills)

  • Salary: £31,357 to £43,729 per annum including London Weighting
  • Job Type: Full Time

We are excited to offer the opportunity for dedicated and dynamic individuals to join our client's School of English, ESOL, and Maths as full-time Lecturers. This role focuses on delivering GCSE and Functional Skills English, primarily to vocational learners aged 16-18. It is a chance to significantly impact our client's students’ educational journeys, helping them progress to higher education or professional careers.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Deliver engaging and effective lessons in GCSE and Functional Skills English to a diverse group of vocational learners.
  • Utilise a variety of teaching methods to cater to different learning styles and needs.
  • Monitor and assess student progress, providing constructive feedback and support.
  • Develop and update curriculum materials in line with educational standards and changes.
  • Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to the continuous improvement of teaching strategies and course offerings.
  • Support students’ academic and personal growth, guiding them towards successful outcomes in their chosen vocational fields.
  • Teach one evening per week (Thursdays) until 9.00pm, ensuring accessibility and support for all students.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Degree or equivalent in English or a related subject area, or a Level 3 qualification with at least 2 years of proven successful teaching experience in English/Literacy/ESOL/EFL.
  • Experience in teaching/tutoring GCSE, Functional Skills English, ESOL, EFL, or literacy.
  • Ability to engage and motivate students aged 16-18 from various vocational backgrounds.
  • Possession of a Level 5 teaching qualification recognised by the FE sector, or willingness to undertake teacher training supported by the College.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills.
