Environmental Services Assistant
  • Hourly Rate: £12 PAYE
  • Location: To be specified
  • Job Type: Full-time (37 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm)

We are seeking an Environmental Services Assistant to join our team. This role involves a variety of tasks including the clearance, cleaning, and disinfection of contaminated areas, responding to environmental problems, and maintaining equipment. The ideal candidate will be diligent, able to follow instructions carefully, and committed to maintaining high standards of health and safety.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Undertake clearance, cleaning, and disinfection of noxious, verminous, or contaminated articles and premises, including handling faeces and sharps in both vacant and occupied properties as directed.
  • Respond to environmental problems such as illegally dumped commercial waste, household garbage, and animal carcasses, undertaking clearance as directed.
  • Collect, load, and dispose of condemned foodstuffs as instructed.
  • Complete basic written records and weekly timesheets, and follow written instructions accurately.
  • Carry out organised visits and revisits as instructed to maximise the efficiency of the section.
  • Assist in drainage investigations and remedial work, including the sealing of drains.
  • Inspect and maintain equipment in accordance with existing procedures.
  • Drive council and other vehicles, carry out routine daily vehicle checks, and refuel as necessary.
  • Undertake depot work, including cleaning and disinfection as directed.
  • Perform any other relevant duties and responsibilities as may arise, in line with council policies and procedures.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and complete basic written records.
  • Experience in handling potentially hazardous materials safely.
  • Good physical condition to perform manual tasks.
  • Valid driving licence and ability to operate council vehicles.
