Estimator - Reed : Job Details

Reed Property & Construction are currently working with a family ran surfacing and groundworks contractor based near Oldbury with a dynamic, progressive and supportive company culture.

We are seeking an experienced Estimator with experience in macadam and/or asphalt to join the construction team.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in estimating costs for asphalt and macadam sub-contract works, particularly within various construction projects including housing, schools, and private developments. This role involves a close collaboration with the commercial and production teams to prepare accurate tenders.

Opportunity: This company is succession planning and looking to hire keen staff over the next few years who are going to grow with the Directors and become the future leaders of this business.

Day-to-day of the role:

• Estimate costs associated with the delivery of asphalt and macadam sub-contract works, accurately quantifying materials, labour, and equipment necessary to complete the works.
• Analyse drawings and check quantities in relation to specifications to ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Obtain the best prices from suppliers and sub-contractors, covering other trades such as cold-planing, thermoplastic marking, high friction surfacing, and resin finishing.
• Conduct occasional site visits to ensure the feasibility and accuracy of estimates.
• Work closely with the commercial team and key production personnel to prepare and submit tenders.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Proven experience in estimating for surfacing works associated with various construction projects, including roads, footpaths, driveways, retail parks, hospitality venues, and warehouses.
• Strong ability to analyse drawings and specifications to check quantities and ensure compliance with project requirements.
• Excellent negotiation skills to obtain the best prices from suppliers and sub-contractors.
• Ability to perform occasional site visits and adapt estimates as needed.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills to effectively work with the commercial and production teams.
