We require an experienced Domestic Violence Protection Order Officer to cover an existing workload within a local police force in the Preston area.
This is an interim position initially for up to 6 months with the potential to be extended, dependent on workload.
The DVPO Officer will be responsible for researching and processing requests made under the Domestic Violence Disclosure Scheme (previously known as Clare’s Law), conducting risk assessment and face to face meetings with applicants and person’s potentially at risk and disclosing relevant information to the person potentially at risk. The DVPO Officer will also have responsibility for processing information and preparing evidence and presenting evidence in court to obtain a Domestic Violence Protection Order.
Key responsibilities:
- Review and process all requests for Disclosure under the Domestic Violence Disclosure Scheme.
- Make decisions re DVDS Applications for cases which do not meet the criteria, cases where no disclosure is required and on cases where disclosure is required.
- Conduct face to face visit or make telephone contact with applicants under the Domestic Violence Disclosure Scheme, where applicable, and provide face to face disclosure information to person’s potentially at risk.
- Review and record Police information under the Domestic Violence Protection Notices Scheme.
- Attend designated Magistrates Courts and present case facts in the Courtroom and apply for Domestic Violence Protection Notices on behalf of the Constabulary.
- Liaise with the Constabulary Legal Team regarding both un-contested and contested Domestic Violence Protection Order applications.
Requirements:
Essential
- Experience of maintaining strict confidentiality, using tact and diplomacy where applicable.
- Experience of providing advice and guidance to staff and managers on policy and procedures.
- Experience of dealing with members of the public and working in partnership with other departments and agencies.
- Experience of working with minimal supervision, organising and prioritising own workload whilst working to deadlines within a busy environment.
- Experience of working effectively as part of a team.
- Experience of working on own initiative to investigate and/or analyse problems, developing solutions and taking appropriate timely action to resolve.
- Experience of producing accurate written information and demonstrate a high level of attention to detail.
- Experience of working within the Safeguarding Arena
Desirable:
- Experience of interviewing members of the public
- Experience of conducting risk assessments in the Safeguarding arena.
- Knowledge of Force I.T. systems
