Development and Play Therapy Worker
- Annual Salary: £31,612
- Location: North & South Bedfordshire
- Job Type: Full-time 09.00-17.00 or 08.00-16.00.
We are looking for a dedicated Development and Play Therapy Worker to join our Domestic Abuse Service team. The role involves delivering person-centred, age-appropriate, strengths-based support and offering therapeutic play activities to children and young people affected by domestic abuse.
Day-to-day of the role:
- Manage a caseload of children and young people, ensuring a strengths-based approach that enables them to realise their potential.
- Offer support, advocacy, and information to all children and young people, creating individual support plans that include actions identified from assessments.
- Undertake therapeutic assessments to determine the suitability for play therapy.
- Plan and provide direct and indirect play therapy opportunities using a variety of interventions.
- Encourage co-production with children and young people to seek their views on the service and explore ideas for future improvements.
- Build good working relationships with parents and develop effective partnership working to achieve the best outcomes.
- Participate in multi-agency meetings, including Child in Need and Child Protection meetings.
- Ensure compliance with safeguarding policies and procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries with customers, staff, and external bodies.
- Participate in a local on-call rota for the service.
- Engage in regular clinical supervision and comply with professional development requirements.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- A recognised professional qualification in psychotherapy or counselling at a minimum of Dip/PGDip level or above.
- Registered with an appropriate professional organisation relevant to therapy modality (e.g., UKCP, AFT, ACP, BACP, BAAT, HCPC, BADth, BAPT, etc.).
- Demonstrable experience of providing outcomes-focused therapy to children, young people, and their families.
- A good understanding of theories of child development and attachment.
- Experience of organising and providing appropriate play and other activities.
- An in-depth understanding of the impact of domestic abuse on children and young people.
- Ability to work non-judgementally and recognise individual needs.
- Experience of caseload management with a focus on outcomes.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work with various agencies.
- Numerate and literate to GCSE standard, IT literate with proficiency in Microsoft packages.
- Experience of using a Housing Management System or similar software is desirable.
