We have an exciting opportunity at Thames Water to join our Home Counties Waste Network team as a Field Planning Specialist.Your role will be to investigate waste network issues, such as pollution and flooding incidents, and work with colleagues to resolve and prevent from occurring again. You will take a leading role in understanding root cause of these events, and be instrumental in ensuring this insight is shared with the wider team so action can be taken.What you’ll be doing as a Field Planning Specialist
- Investigate incidents of ‘escape of sewage’ from the waste network, fully understanding the root cause of the incident so preventative action can be taken. Provide information for, and attend, senior incident review meetings as required.
- Following investigation, raise follow-on work, as appropriate, and track progress closely to ensure timely completion, thereby preventing a repeat incident occurring.
- Work with other teams, such as Network Protection Team / Environment Protection Team / Customer Team to educate customers, thereby preventing repeat incidents.
- Instrumental in recommending and delivering continuous improvement initiatives, whether driven centrally or locally, to improve performance.
- Identify business risks (e.g. hotspot locations) and flag as appropriate to be managed in line with the company risk management procedure.
- Carry out contractor auditing; ensuring that all works undertaken meet the Thames Water Health, Safety and Wellbeing standards and in line with business requirements.
- Take part in our regional network Out Of Hours Standby rota, to oversee emergency work.

- Water Industry experience, ideally in Waste Networks, would be beneficial.
- Confident at using a range of company IT systems and office software, to conduct incident investigations. (training can be provided for company systems)
- Good verbal and written communication skills, to interact with your colleagues and customers / stakeholders.
- An uncompromising approach to Health, Safety and Wellbeing.
- Passion and understanding of how to deliver exceptional customer experiences.
- Must hold a full UK driving licence.
