Job Description :

We have an urgent requirement for January 2025, for a suitably experienced and qualified Finance Manager on an interim basis, with the potential of the role becoming permanent.

As a Finance Manager, you will work in a 2-person Finance Department, reporting to the Assistant Director of Finance & Administration. You will be responsible for a range of accounting, HR and administrative duties, including:

  • Controlling and maintaining the purchase ledger, nominal ledger, multiple bank accounts, credit card accounts and petty cash
  • Processing financial transactions, including invoices, expense reports, deposits, BACS payments and purchase orders, and tracking information using financial databases
  • Sharing the running of the monthly payroll process with the Assistant Director of Finance & Administration
  • Monitoring project expenditure
  • Month end reconciliations
  • Accounts to trial balance
  • Updating monthly cashflow forecast
  • Preparing monthly reports for submission in line with monthly deadlines
  • Supporting monthly review and reconciliation of the programme’s financial reports ensuring expenses are compliant with financial and operational policies
  • Assisting the Assistant Director, Finance and Administration and the Director of the Programme with budgets
  • Responsible for the administration of HR processes including contracts, right to work checks, DBS checks
  • Working closely with all departments including staff, faculty, vendors and students
  • Providing support in the absence of the Assistant Director, Finance and Administration

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Previous professional experience in a finance or accounting role at a university or in education (desirable)
  • Previous experience in running all aspects of payroll, including pension contributions
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills necessary to manage multiple and competing demands at once
  • Relevant knowledge and experience of Sage Line 50, Microsoft Office and Sage HR (not essential), Advanced Excel
  • The ability to work well under pressure, with a calm, polite and professional manner
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to interact with a range of users, from students to faculty and staff
  • Discretion and confidentiality are of utmost importance at all times
  • Ability to influence and advise more senior staff to meet required procedures and standards
  • Flexible, proactive and responsive outlook
  • Excellent team working skills
  • Ideally, candidates should have or are working towards a financial qualification (AAT/Part Qualified ACCA/CIMA)

Candidates must have the unrestricted right to work in the UK. This is a full-time role with some flexibility on remote work (generally up to one day per week).
