Finance Officer

We are seeking a dedicated Finance Officer to join a secondary school in Maidstone that prides itself on its ‘Good’ Ofsted rating and ‘Outstanding’ denominational inspection grade. This role is integral to the financial operations of the school and offers a rewarding opportunity to contribute to the educational sector.Day-to-day of the role:Financial Control:
- Process income and expenditure efficiently.
- Prepare cheques, BACS, and direct debit payments for authorisation.
- Perform bank account reconciliations.
- Handle end of year and payroll journal processing.
- Monitor energy usage and examination costs.
- Support the Finance Manager with annual budget preparations.
- Assist with month-end and year-end financial processes.
ParentPay System:
- Set up and manage payment items.
- Process income and issue refunds as needed.
- Address enquiries from parents and staff.
- Keep student and staff records up to date.
Lunch Cards:
- Oversee the distribution of catering cards.
- Respond to enquiries from parents, students, and staff.
School Trips:
- Oversee the financial aspects of school trips.
- Handle related income and expenditure.
- Perform analysis and reconciliation for each trip.
Assist Register:
- Maintain a computerised register.
- Generate monthly reports.
- Conduct annual stock and audit checks.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- A good standard of general education with strong literacy and numeracy skills, e.g., 5 GCSEs (A*-C) including English and Maths (or equivalent).
- A formal accountancy qualification or part-qualified status is desirable.
- Proficient in relating well to both children and adults.
- High level of ICT competency.
- Previous experience in a finance role is essential.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
- Ability to work constructively as part of a team, understanding school roles and responsibilities and your own position within these.
