Job Description :

Potts’ is a leading UK food brand who are challenging the way consumers make and consumer food. Most notably, Potts’ are the creators of the worlds first stocks, gravies and cooking sauces in 100% recyclable "drinks" cans. Now selling over 5 Million cans since their launch and saving over 50 tonnes of single use plastic. Although Potts’ are an established business having been founded in 2007, the company has seen significant growth in the past few years and has the same excitement and challenges of a startup. The business supplies all of the UK supermarkets as well as produces products for some major own label brands. And now has its sights set on export.

We are looking for an exceptional Financial Controller to join us. You’ll be working as the finance lead within the business, partnering with the wider business teams within the monthly finance planning cycle.

Key Responsibilities

Overall

  • Responsibility for managing a best-in-class finance function.

Accounting

  • Prepare & maintain accounting and financial records, adhering to relevant standards.
  • Accurate and timely completion of all month-end activities within the business finance cycle.
  • Oversight of AR / AP ledgers (managed by Finance Assistant), ensuring full reconciliation.
  • Oversight of month-end balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Completing monthly stock reconciliation between financial and stock management systems

Management Reporting

  • Providing financial management reports to our partners, enabling them to monitor and improve performance.
  • Lead the monthly production of Management Accounts, reporting on P&L, Cashflow and Balance Sheet.
  • Production of monthly departmental reports highlighting performance and budget spend.

Compliance

  • Support with the preparation & submission of all financial returns to HMRC, Companies House and other bodies (e.g. VAT returns, EMI submissions, etc.).
  • Working alongside outsourced partner firms where appropriate to complete these tasks.
  • Support the Finance Director and auditors (if relevant) in preparing year-end accounts.

Business Partnering

  • Act as the lead finance business partner within the monthly business planning cycle.
  • Assisting the management team with ad-hoc finance projects as required (e.g. ERP implementation, Customer & SKU Profitability analysis, etc.).
  • Develop end to end NPD P&Ls based on commercial and operational inputs.

Budgeting & controls

  • Developing and implementing financial controls, monitoring spend against budget.
  • Running budget-holder meetings with department heads (e.g. Production, Marketing, Sales, Operations).
  • Preparation of annual budgets & cash-flow forecasting where required.

Team & Processes

  • Oversight of Finance Assistants to ensure routine financial processes are completed to the highest standards, as efficiently & accurately as possible.
  • Gain understanding of all systems used, documenting finance procedures & processes.
  • Seek continual improvements in financial processes, identifying efficiencies & opportunities for time/money saving, and increased accuracy.

  • Experience working within manufacturing and consumer goods industry.
  • Knowledge of Wholesale, Retail & Online channels, importing, stock management & cost accounting
  • Intermediate/Advanced MS Excel
  • Intermediate/Advanced experience using accounting and stock management software e.g., SAP, Xero, QBO & Unleashed
  • Qualified Accountant (CIMA/ACA/ACCA) (or similar)

This role will be hybrid (2/3 days in office) from our Swindon office.

Salary : 50000 - 70000
