Financial Controller - UBT : Job Details

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Financial Controller to join a growing family-managed SME based in Kimbolton. The business provides packaging products to SMEs across the region and UK. Reporting to the Managing Director, you will play a pivotal role in the financial planning, compliance, and strategic financial management of the company. You will be responsible for ensuring the financial health of the business, working closely with the Management Team and Directors to provide key insights, manage budgets, and oversee financial operations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct monthly financial assessments, highlighting key focus areas for the Management Team and suggesting actions for presentation to the MD.
• Line-manage two Finance Officers.
• Develop and manage annual financial plans and projections.
• Establish and oversee department budgets.
• Bring in-house the monthly MI currently provided by our external accountants.
• Allocate funds for capital projects, illustrate funding options, and work with Directors to ensure financial stability.
• Analyse financial risks and benefits of business initiatives, providing projections and recommendations.
• Increase EBITDA.
• Manage the company’s bonus scheme based on share of increased profits (GBS - Growth By Sharing).
• Manage email Management Inbox and provide support to the MD.
• Complete quarterly Plastic Packaging Tax returns and 6-monthly EPR Tax submissions.
• Assist external accountants with tax matters for directors and shareholders.
• Attend monthly Leadership and Shareholder Meetings.
• Prepare Board Pack for, and attend, monthly Board Meetings with external non-exec advisors.
• Oversee quarterly Forex purchases.
• Complete compliance report requests for suppliers and manage Sedex compliance (approximately two per week).
• Maintain a robust and compliant position regarding legal matters and liaise with solicitors as necessary.
• Oversee insurance renewals and amendments.
• Source company cars and trucks, adding them to insurance.
• Ensure FSC compliance and audits, approving logos for new products.
• Ensure annual compliance with Cardnet & SAGE.
• Negotiate VAT Deferment Account facility renewals with HMRC (every five years) without requiring bank guarantees.
• Handle Companies House returns, including ERS, Tax, ICO and Annual Confirmation Statements.

What We’re Looking For:

• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent) with proven experience in a Financial Controller role.
• Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills.
• Excellent knowledge of financial regulations, tax laws, and compliance requirements.
• Proficiency in creating and managing financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting.
• Experience managing teams and working cross-functionally with senior leadership.
• Strong communication and presentation skills.
• High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
