Functional Skills Tutor
- Salary: £32,432.40 – £39,998.70 (Dependent on experience)

We are seeking a dedicated Functional Skills Tutor to deliver exceptional teaching in mathematics, English, and ICT. The ideal candidate will have a passion for education and the ability to inspire learners with complex and profound needs.
Day to Day of the Role:
- Model outstanding teaching, learning, and assessment practices to ensure high learner achievement.
- Deliver high-quality, differentiated teaching to meet the diverse needs of learners.
- Act as a pastoral tutor, managing all aspects of the learner experience and ensuring progress towards goals.
- Manage the learner journey process, including initial assessments, goal setting, and progress monitoring.
- Maintain and update personal learner files and our systems to meet record-keeping standards.
- Build effective relationships with parents/carers to manage learner issues and concerns.
- Deliver Functional Skills up to level 2, in both one-to-one and group settings, including remote delivery.
- Develop learning materials and assessment plans for functional skills.
- Identify barriers to learning and plan to overcome them.
- Attend moderation meetings and utilise specialist support services effectively.
- Manage classroom and direct learning support staff.
- Deliver personal care and support, promoting independence.
- Champion English, mathematics, and ICT throughout all sessions.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS) and a degree in an appropriate discipline.
- Minimum of Level 3 Maths and English or equivalent.
- Minimum of Level 2 ICT.
- Experience teaching learners with ASCs, SLD, and PMLD within a special education setting.
- Proven track record of delivering functional skills curricula with good or better outcomes.
- Experience working in a college setting and understanding of City & Guilds qualification framework.
- Secure subject knowledge in a functional skills/work-related education environment.
- In-depth understanding of Ofsted’s Education Inspection Framework (EIF).
- Knowledge of how accreditation and RARPA can be used to evidence learner progress.
