Global Head of Platforms (DevOps)

We are seeking a Global Head of Platforms (DevOps) for our client, a Cyber focussed start up, on a fully remote basis. This is a great opportunity for someone who has a keen interest in Cyber Security. Alongside a starting salary of between £100K- £120k, they have some excellent benefits including unlimited annual leave and equity in the business. For this role you MUST be resident and eligible to work in the UK, unsupported by a visa.

You will have extensive expertise in networking and scaling distributed systems to lead our DevOps team. Your primary mission will be to scale our automated scanning platform to support clients on a global level. As part of a rapidly growing team, you'll also tackle various DevOps and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) challenges, focusing on improving development speed and service reliability.

Key Responsibilities:

• Drive Strategic Alignment: Collaborate with cybersecurity and engineering teams to deliver market-leading features by translating business priorities into actionable technical requirements, ensuring that project execution aligns with strategic goals.
• Scale Distributed Systems: Design, scale, and optimize our distributed scanning infrastructure to efficiently and reliably serve a global client base.
• Elevate DevOps Practices: Continuously improve the four key DevOps metrics:
  • Increase the deployment frequency of our platform.
  • Reduce the lead time for changes to reach production.
  • Minimize deployment failures that cause unplanned downtime.
  • Shorten recovery time from production failures.
• Solve Complex Scaling Challenges: Work with an engineering-centric team to address issues such as:
  • Efficiently scaling a global network.
  • Enhancing data processing throughput across workflow pipelines.
  • Improving overall system availability and reliability.

Required Experience:

This is a senior leadership role, and candidates should have at least 8 years of experience, including:

• Leading and scaling agile, high-performance platform teams in fast-paced environments.
• Designing and implementing scalable, high-throughput distributed networks.
• Managing and maintaining cloud infrastructure.
• Working with cross-functional teams using Agile methodologies.
• Strong understanding of networking concepts (OSI Layer 3 and above).
• Experience managing and upgrading production systems.
• Involvement in scaling a system from a single region to global deployment.

Technical Expertise:

They work with a variety of technologies, and familiarity with the following is highly desirable:

• Cloud Providers: AWS, Azure, GitHub.
• Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC): Terraform.
• Platform Tools: Kubernetes (AWS EKS), Helm, Docker, Docker Compose.
• Monitoring and Observability: EFK Stack (Elastic, Fluent, Kibana), Prometheus, Jaeger/OpenTelemetry, Grafana.
• Databases and Messaging: PostgreSQL (RDS), MongoDB, Redis, Elasticsearch, Kafka.
• CI/CD Pipelines: GitHub Actions, AWS CodeBuild.
• Workflow Orchestration: Airflow, Kubernetes.
• Languages and Runtimes: Python, Node.js, Go.
