We are looking for either an established Governance and DP Manager or an 'up and comer' with great experience that is ready to step into a Manager role. Whilst having a flair for developing the Data Protection Assistant, you'll be someone who thrives in this sector and enjoys working in a supportive and welcoming Legal, and wider Corporate Services team. As Governance and Data Protection Manager, a typical day might include:Governance & Data Protection
- Responsible for developing and maintaining our governance framework, statutory registers and management strategies.
- Lead in the preparation of the Regulatory Standards self-assessments, and the self-assessment against our chosen Code of Governance.
- Responsible for all Company House and Charity Commission filings on behalf of the companies within the Acis Group
- Advise the Head of Corporate Services, Joint Leadership team and Board where appropriate on any changes that may impact the business.
- Providing a professional secretariat service to the Acis Group including its Subsidiary Boards and Committees. Supporting the CEO (Company Secretary) on all relevant matters.
- Leading the team to provide key governance advice and guidance to the Chair, Board members, senior leadership team and colleagues on governance issues, ensuring appropriate arrangements are in place for committee meetings and board meetings
- Acting as the Data Protection Officer for the Acis Group and being primarily responsible for ensuring that the Acis Group complies with all applicable data protection legislation.
- Act as the subject matter expert in advising colleagues on relevant data protection matters including DPIA’s, Data Sharing Agreements, and managing the key risks relating to processing of data.
- Act as the lead on our responsibilities within UK GDPR and Data Protection Act 2018. Monitoring and overall responsibility for ensuing effective DPIA’s are completed.
- Ownership of our IMG group, and ensuring our organisation compliance with, and championing, excellent data protection principles, applying a continuous improvement principle to our DP learnings.
Board & Committees
- Providing support and guidance on board level recruitment, training and development plans. This includes leading on board member induction process, and supporting on appraisals and skills assessments.
- Responsible for leading on and delivering Acis’ Annual General meeting and board away days, including minuting and monitoring that actions are progressed.
- Responsible for all Board meetings. You’ll be making sure that all the necessary arrangements are in place for our board meetings; preparing the agendas in advance, collating the meeting papers and publishing them on time in readiness for the meeting. Minuting the meetings themselves and ensuring that actions are progressed will also be in your remit.
General
- Supporting internal audits within your area and providing assurance to the Audit and Risk Committee where appropriate.
- Ensuring that all registrations with the Information Commissioner’s Office are kept up to date.
- Working closely with the Legal Services Manager and team to provide an effective service to our customers and Acis Group.
- Applying your strong technical knowledge of the laws and regulations under which we operate.
The sort of thing we are looking for (Don't worry if you don't tick every box):
- Extensive knowledge of corporate governance principles and practices
- Detailed knowledge of Data Protection regulations and requirements
- Demonstrable experience of managing own caseload on a wide variety of matters
- Experience of operating within the Company Secretary environment with evidence of effective liaison with Board Members and Directors, arranging Board meetings, drafting resolutions and general company secretarial duties including filings at Companies House and the Charity Commission
- You’ll be an authentic and articulate communicator with the ability to write clear, concise and engaging reports, policies and other documentation, and to present the same to the Board
- You will ensure that Acis and its customers obtain maximum benefit from what we spend on goods, services and works

- A membership of an appropriate professional body together with demonstrable evidence of continuing professional development.
- Whilst social housing sector experience isn’t essential, it would be great if you’ve operated within a highly regulated environment previously.
