Due to exciting growth and expanding business needs, a fantastic opportunity has arisen to join a leading international bank based in central London as they seek a Head of Risk to lead their department, with a strong focus on credit risk. The role involves leading a team of circa 12 people, with colleagues from a junior level to Senior Risk Managers reporting into this role. You will be responsible for building and establishing a full and thorough risk management framework, policies, guidelines, processes and controls to manage the bank’s risk and comply with the regulatory requirements.
Key responsibilities of the Head of Risk Management to include:
Risk Management Processes
- Supervise the risk management operations, providing essential resources and support for the implementation of approved business plans and strategies.
- Conduct independent reviews of risk report submissions to ensure that all significant risk issues are addressed.
- Assess risk issues identified by Risk Owners, promptly reporting any significant incidents, irregularities, or non-compliance issues to management committees, and updating key stakeholders on local regulatory requirements.
- Monitor adherence to the Group’s Risk Appetite, continuously overseeing asset quality and implementing appropriate remedial actions and strategies.
- Stay informed about market practices and regulatory changes, ensuring that the Bank has effective action plans in place.
- Make decisions on risk-related issues based on delegated authority from Management Committees.
- Oversee the usage of risk limits, ensuring that all quantifiable risks fall within approved boundaries and are properly aggregated.
- Lead risk-related projects, including those initiated by the Bank Group or local requirements.
- Support the three specialized risk management committees including credit, market, interest rate, liquidity, and operational risks.
- Foster a strong risk culture and governance framework.
Customer Relations
- Coordinate with solicitors when necessary.
- Engage in ongoing communication with relevant parties, including business and operational managers and regulators, regarding risk management issues.
People Management
- Oversee a variety of colleagues as a Line Manager, from Clerk to Senior Risk Manager
- Ensure continuous staff training to meet requirements.
Requirements for the successful candidate to include:
- Educated to University degree level or equivalent
- Very high level of credit risk analysis skills required
- CeMap Qualification (highly desirable)
- Candidates currently holding SMF4 highly desirable
- Previous Risk Management experience within banking is essential
- Candidates must have a strong understanding of the current regulatory framework applicable to the banking institutions.
