Summary

***INTERNAL APPLICANTIONS ONLY PLEASE*** We’re looking for a Head of Legacy Administration to lead our Legacy Administration team, with responsibility for the proactive management of the legacies left to us.Legacies look after circa £60 million of our income each year, funds which are critical to help us protect our special places but our ambitions don’t stop there. We want to increase that to £100 million a year by 2040 and our recent investment in legacy development will build this pipeline of future gifts.

However, there is flexibility on where you are based at other times. You will be required to work at a National Trust location for 40-60% of your working week. This will be discussed in more detail at interview.

What you'll be doing

This role impacts our largest fundraised income stream. You’ll be responsible for the strategic direction of the team and managing and optimising legacy income. You’ll ensure excellent communication with executors and the families of our legators and grow our reputation for efficient, impactful and sensitive legacy administration.   In order to achieve this, you’ll need to fully understand the importance of implementing the right systems and processes to meet compliance requirements. You’ll ensure the team always delivers best practise and have the confidence to demonstrate your decision-making processes to internal stakeholders to ensure legacies are spent in line with donor’s wishes and legal claims and disputes are managed robustly and sensitively.

Who we're looking for

We’d love to hear from you if you have; 

  • Significant experience of probate and legacy administration. 
  • Are comfortable working under pressure  
  • Detailed working knowledge of probate, property and charity law  
  • Experience of mediation and dealing with contentious legacy issues. 
  • Comfortable setting strategic direction as dealing with operational issues such as managing budgets, leading high performing teams and building strong stakeholder relationships both internally & externally.
