Summary

We have an exciting opportunity to lead our Sutton House team as House and Gardens Manager. You’ll create the vision and business plan at Sutton House in line with our national strategy and support the Operations Manager in delivering operational excellence with our Hackney community and supporters. Using your creativity and communication skills, you'll inspire and motivate your team and volunteers to help provide the friendly face of the National Trust to our visitors.

Accommodation is provided to the postholder for the proper or better performance of their duties in accordance with Trust criteria and HMRC rules.

What it's like to work here

Reporting to the Property Operations Manager, you'll manage a team of many strands, ranging from collections and compliance to visitor experience and partnerships.

You'll have responsibility for the operation of the property, including the day-to-day visitor and community offer as well as looking ahead at new opportunities. You'll work with the Operations Manager for the London properties in developing the business plan in line with our National and portfolio strategy.

What you'll be doing

You'll analyse the financial needs at the property, seeking opportunities for growth and understand the budget requirements . You’ll lead and be the property contact for small projects and explore the next steps for Sutton House. Using sound judgement and decision making, in line with National Trust guidelines and policies, you'll ensure the delivery of high standards of service and visitor experience.  You’ll also be responsible for making sure the property maintains its museum accredited status, leading on the associated compliance.

You'll engage with all our visitors to inspire support through fundraising, membership and help visitors to enjoy their stay. 

Liaising with internal and external stakeholders, you’ll champion the work at Sutton House.

Who we're looking for
  • Strong experience in visitor business, tourist, heritage sector
  • Ability to effectively communicate at all levels
  • Demonstrable experience of leading and managing a team
  • Experience of risk management
  • Awareness of collections management and compliance needs
  • Experience of supporting or leading small projects
  • Good understanding of community or visitor needs
  • Strong financial management skills
