Job Description :

Robert Half are working with a leading manufacturing business with a strong history of delivering high-quality products and services to their customers. As a unionised environment, they pride themselves on fostering strong working relationships with both their workforce and the unions. They're now looking for an experienced HR Generalist to join their team and provide hands-on, operational HR support across the business.

This is a permanent role, based on site in Melksham.

The Role:

As the HR Generalist, you will play a key role in managing a wide range of HR activities, supporting both employees and management. This is a hands-on role, ideal for someone who enjoys being involved in day-to-day HR operations and thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide operational HR support on a variety of matters, including employee relations, performance management, absence management, and disciplinary issues.
  • Work closely with line managers and supervisors to ensure HR policies and procedures are adhered to.
  • Partner with union representatives to manage union-related issues, ensuring compliance with collective agreements and fostering strong, collaborative relationships.
  • Support the recruitment and onboarding process, from drafting job descriptions to conducting interviews and induction programmes.
  • Manage HR administrative duties such as maintaining employee records, preparing reports, and managing HR systems.
  • Advise on employment law, company policies, and best practices to ensure compliance and minimise risk.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of HR initiatives and projects aligned with business goals.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in a HR Generalist role, preferably within a unionised, manufacturing or industrial setting.
  • Strong understanding of employment law and experience working with unions and collective agreements.
  • A hands-on, proactive approach with the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships at all levels of the business.
  • CIPD qualification or equivalent experience would be advantageous.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
