IIED Engagement Lead for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate ChangeHybrid (within and outside the UK)The OrganisationThe International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED) is a policy and action research organisation promoting sustainable development and linking local priorities to global challenges. The IPCC Chair’s team is separate from the IPCC Engagement Task Team IIED has established, which is where the postholder will be based. We are currently seeking an Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) engagement lead for IIED to join us on a full-time basis, working 35 hours per week (job shares will be considered) for a 12 month fixed term contract with the possibility of extension.The postholder will bring a strong understanding and track record of engagement with the IPCC from their previous roles. We only use the UK salary structure to determine starting salaries, but it will not apply to salaries outside the UK thereafter.This is an extraordinary opportunity for a seasoned professional with direct IPCC and policy development experience to join our globally respected and impactful organisation.In this high-profile role, you’ll directly engage with the 7th IPCC assessment cycle, work with international networks, and ensure voices from the Majority World are included in global climate decisions.The RoleAs the IPCC engagement lead for IIED, you will work alongside, but separately from, the IPCC Chair and his team, who are hosted by IIED. You will play a key role in connecting IIED with IPCC processes, and influencing the development and uptake of IIED inputs to IPCC in line with our strategic goals.You will leverage your understanding of IPCC operations and networks to ensure IIED’s contributions are impactful and aligned with our mission.Engaging with IPCC processes, you will represent IIED, as an IPCC Observer Organisation at panel sessions, and participate in workshops and meetings through standard IPCC selection processes, while facilitating stakeholder relationships and supporting IIED’s staff and partners to engage effectively.You will co-ordinate activities to strengthen inclusion and enhance contributions to critical areas such as the Cities Special Report and updates to the Technical Guidelines for Assessing Climate Impacts and Adaptations.Additionally, you will:- Identify opportunities for unofficial engagement with linked processes- Develop and execute strategies for IIED’s engagement with AR7 milestones- Support business development through fundraising, budget management, and reporting- Contribute to governance and strategic development related to climate change and sustainabilityAbout YouTo be considered as the IPCC engagement lead for IIED, you will need:- Relevant work experience directly related to the IPCC- Substantial experience of evidence-based policy development and inter-governmental negotiations- Experience managing or supporting complex, multi-faceted projects and programmes which involve multiple actors based in diverse countries/time zones- An interest in and understanding of the issues involved in Sustainable Development- Excellent knowledge of all practical aspects of budget and financial management in the international development sectorThe closing date for this role is 30th January 2025.IIED is a hybrid working organisation and you are likely to be working from home most of the time.
