Insurance Accountant Location: Haywards Heath – Hybrid (1 day per week in-office)
About the Role
This newly created position is designed to provide critical financial insights that empower effective decision-making at Markerstudy Group. We are seeking a qualified accountant with solid experience in the insurance industry and a strong working knowledge of Solvency II regulations. As part of our experienced Haywards Heath team, you’ll join a dynamic, rapidly expanding company committed to growth and excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Accounting: Lead the production and review of financial accounts, ensuring accurate balance sheet reconciliations.
- Month-End Process: Oversee the month-end process and manage trial balance spreadsheets, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
- Solvency II Calculations: Assist with the calculation of Solvency II balance sheets and SCR for various insurance entities.
- Regulatory Reporting: Support quarterly and annual Solvency II returns, including analysis for SFCR reports.
- Management Reporting: Prepare monthly management information for CFO reports.
- Technical Reconciliation: Produce and reconcile technical data for statutory accounts and regulatory returns, covering coinsurance, quota share, XOL declarations, and tax filings.
- Banking and Payments: Assist with daily online banking activities, including payment authorisations in line with company mandate.
- Audit Support: Take ownership of audit preparation and compliance.
- Interdepartmental Liaison: Coordinate with team members and the wider finance department, ensuring data flows support service level objectives and group reporting requirements.
- Process Optimisation: Continuously improve systems and spreadsheets for streamlined financial processes, implementing changes as needed.
- System Integration: Maintain a comprehensive understanding of underwriting and financial systems and their interactions.
- Team Leadership: Manage a small team to achieve operational objectives.
- Documentation Maintenance: Ensure all process notes are kept current and tested.
- Additional Tasks: Undertake other duties as reasonably required.
Requirements:
- Qualifications: ACCA, ACA, or CIMA qualified
- Experience: Demonstrated experience in the insurance industry, including expertise in Solvency II
- Leadership and Adaptability: Ability to lead and adapt to change is highly desirable
