Interim Commodity Buyer
Term: 3 - 6 month Contract
Rate: Circa £300 - £400p/day
Location: Cheshire
We are seeking an Interim Commodity Buyer to ensure the continuous and cost-effective supply of materials, consumables, and services. The successful candidate will manage supplier relationships, contracts, and pricing, while driving improvements and opportunities within our Supply Chain. This role requires a proactive individual who can work closely with internal stakeholders to support business growth and margin expansion.
Key Responsibilities
- Supply Chain Management: Ensure a cost-effective and uninterrupted supply of materials, services, and consumables. Manage and develop relationships with current suppliers and oversee active SKUs while planning for future growth.
- Supplier Relationships: Develop and maintain robust relationships with suppliers. Lead and coordinate regular performance reviews to drive continuous improvement and quality performance.
- Pricing and Contracts: Lead RFQ processes to ensure competitive pricing. Negotiate and implement Long Term Agreements (LTAs) and annual pricing with vendors. Drive annual pricing negotiations to align with strategic objectives.
- Risk Management: Identify and mitigate risks associated with sole or single-sourced items. Address and escalate issues effectively to ensure timely resolution.
- Internal Collaboration: Collaborate with Supply Chain teams, internal stakeholders, and support Rate Readiness reviews to align resources for future growth. Ensure purchased parts static data remains accurate and aligned with program life cycles.
- Continuous Improvement: Assess and implement vendor-led Continuous Improvement (CI) opportunities. Ensure Design For Manufacture and Design For Cost considerations are integrated during New Product Introductions (NPI).
- Data Analysis: Generate and analyze data, presenting insights to vendors and management, including spend reviews, project updates, and cost opportunities.
- Project Management: Support the senior leadership team with ad-hoc analysis and project management tasks.
Experience Required
- Proven experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment with control over production, material planning, and purchasing via an electronic ERP system.
- Demonstrated experience in managing RFQ processes and negotiating LTAs/contracts.
- Experience facilitating cross-functional activities and effectively communicating within a team.
- Strong confidence and tenacity in managing Supply Chain projects to successful completion.
Desirable Qualifications
- CIPS Level 4 certification.
- Ability to understand and interpret engineering drawings.
- Experience in identifying Value Engineering opportunities.
