Kitchen Assistant
Job Title: Kitchen AssistantLocation: Colchester
Job Purpose:
To assist, as directed, with all aspects of food and beverage preparation to meet required standards.
Duties:
- Deputise for the Catering Manager when necessary (primary schools only).
- Prepare and cook food for students.
- Prepare food for other schools within the organisation.
- Serve customers at the counter, hatch, or kiosk as required.
- Undertake cleaning duties, including light and heavy equipment, walls (up to 6ft.), floors, fixtures, utensils, and more.
- Ensure tables and counters are clean and adequately stocked during service times.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene in compliance with statutory and organisational regulations.
- Attend training and meetings as required.
- Assist with special functions that may occur outside normal working hours.
- Report customer comments or complaints and take remedial action where appropriate.
- Report incidents such as accidents, theft, damage, or unfit food immediately and take necessary action.
- Carry out additional duties as required by the role and in line with your skills and grade.

Person Specification:
Qualifications & Experience
- Experience in preparing and cooking simple food and beverages.
- Experience serving customers and undertaking cleaning tasks.
- Basic level of education and understanding of school operations.
Skills
- Basic literacy, numeracy, and ability to use kitchen and cleaning equipment.
- Good communication, organisational, and time management skills.
Working with Others
