Kitchen Assistant

Job Title: Kitchen AssistantLocation: Colchester

Job Purpose:

To assist, as directed, with all aspects of food and beverage preparation to meet required standards.

Duties:
  • Deputise for the Catering Manager when necessary (primary schools only).
  • Prepare and cook food for students.
  • Prepare food for other schools within the organisation.
  • Serve customers at the counter, hatch, or kiosk as required.
  • Undertake cleaning duties, including light and heavy equipment, walls (up to 6ft.), floors, fixtures, utensils, and more.
  • Ensure tables and counters are clean and adequately stocked during service times.
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene in compliance with statutory and organisational regulations.
  • Attend training and meetings as required.
  • Assist with special functions that may occur outside normal working hours.
  • Report customer comments or complaints and take remedial action where appropriate.
  • Report incidents such as accidents, theft, damage, or unfit food immediately and take necessary action.
  • Carry out additional duties as required by the role and in line with your skills and grade.

Person Specification:

Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience in preparing and cooking simple food and beverages.
  • Experience serving customers and undertaking cleaning tasks.
  • Basic level of education and understanding of school operations.

Skills

  • Basic literacy, numeracy, and ability to use kitchen and cleaning equipment.
  • Good communication, organisational, and time management skills.

Working with Others

  • Ability to build respectful relationships with children and colleagues.
  • Teamwork and understanding of others' roles within the organisation.
