Learning Support Assistant

Would you be open to taken students on day trips to Thorpe park, Colchester Zoo and Other interesting and enjoyable hobbies and having this all paid for you?
Empowering Learning are currently working with a unique client that supports young adults with complex needs to ensure that there quality life is improved and also allowing the students to obtain qualifications whilst completing their hobbies and interests. This is not your usual 08:30 - 15:30 school job. This is a wonderful position that is very rare to find in an education setting and you will be working with a wonderful team to support you through every step of the way.
The client we work with operates as an outreach provision, therefore the programme is delivered within a wide range of settings from Students' homes, work placements, local colleges, social activities or leisure-based settings. All programmes are designed to identify and prompt meaningful skills management and development for supporting individuals' vocational pathways.
Main tasks and responsibilities
Student learning
- Provide support as required to the student in following lesson plans, being mindful of neither over-supporting nor under-supporting.
- Follow SMART learning objectives set by the tutor, embedding functional skills English and Maths opportunities.
- Observe students' needs and responses and identify moments of progress and potential barriers to learning.
- Focus, while supporting, on opportunities for target achievement.
- Record progress on the lesson plan in relation to targets identified.
- Use appropriate interaction style and strategies to enable student to access their learning.
- Liaise and communicate effectively and respectfully with student, tutor, staff and professionals as needed.
- Feedback through discussion with tutor at least weekly, either remotely or in person, including ideas expressed by student.
- Contribute to assessment where appropriate and under the guidance of the relevant tutor.
- Promote discussion with the student of positive personal and social values, including Keeping Safe, Emotional Well-being, Safeguarding, Prevent and British Values, feeding back to the tutor potential for further learning through tutorial sessions where needed.
- Contribute to and take part in student progress meetings when possible.
- Encourage inclusion in activities with other learners and support interaction between them.
Pastoral Care
- Be a calm, positive, respectful and resilient role model - having a 'can-do' attitude.
- Listen carefully to feedback and responses from student, valuing their ideas and promoting their Student Voice.
- Communicate effectively with students using their preferred method(s) of communication. Training will be provided if necessary.
- Help students identify and resolve matters which impede their progress.
- Model and promote student self-care and independence skills, including healthy eating, drinking, mobility and washing.
- Transport students by use of own car, public transport or walking.
- Assist students with mobility, lifting, handling, repositioning, and use of wheelchairs/walking aids where appropriate. (In this instance, training will be provided)
General Responsibilities
- Take responsibility for the safeguarding and promoting the well-being and welfare of students (training will be provided).
- Respect and maintain confidentiality but have regard to the safeguarding protocols of information sharing where necessary.
- Comply with all the clients policies, practices and procedures.
- Take responsibility for, and be pro-active, in own personal and professional development, and participate in staff development activities and appraisals as directed.
- Maintain petty cash records effectively, taking responsibility for ensuring a sufficient balance for planned activities. Report monthly balance of petty cash to Office Administrator as required.
- Maintain care of any equipment issued to you and/or the student, e.g. camera, staff phone, student laptop. Report any issues promptly to the Office Administrator.
- Undertake such duties as may reasonably be required of you, commensurate with your general level of responsibility.
