Learning Support Assistant
  • Daily Pay: £85-£110 depending on experience.
  • Location: Bramley, Guildford
  • Job Type: Full-time, term time.

Reed Education are seeking a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to join our SEMH School in Bramley, Guildford. This role involves supporting a child with severe learning disabilities 3 mornings a week, and the rest of the time you'll be supporting the classes as a Teaching Assistant. You'll be planning and delivering 1:1 support programmes to promote students’ learning and emotional literacy, both in and out of the classroom, under the direction of the SENCO. The ideal candidate will provide a safe, stimulating, and therapeutic environment, fostering students’ physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Build positive relationships with students, serving as an exemplary role model.
  • Plan and deliver support programmes to develop students’ social and emotional skills or to assist in whole class subject delivery.
  • Adhere to safeguarding policies, raising concerns immediately.
  • Liaise with teachers and staff regarding the needs and progress of students receiving support.
  • Guide and mentor students to secure measurable and significant improvement.
  • Work in partnership with the SENCO to ensure effective communication between the school and home.
  • Support students with specific learning difficulties to encourage independence and reach their full potential.
  • Maintain student records and reports as required.
  • Utilise individual Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) to set specific targets for students.
  • Liaise with parents and take part in annual special needs review meetings.
  • Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team with all school staff and external agencies.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Relevant qualification to support the literacy and numeracy progress of students.
  • Experience of working with children, particularly those with behavioural, emotional, and social difficulties and/or autistic spectrum conditions.
  • Understanding and knowledge of current issues in education/social care.
  • Detailed working knowledge of safeguarding procedures.
  • Ability to motivate children and manage behaviour effectively.
  • Competence with ICT and clear communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and manage own time and tasks.
  • GCSE grade C or above in English and Mathematics, or equivalent (desirable).
  • Driving Licence (desirable).
