About the Role

Do you have the skills to support and mentor young people, helping them overcome barriers to learning and reach their full potential? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as a Behaviour Support Worker.

Reed is working with a school based in the Alveston area of Bristol. The ideal candidate will be a role model for the children, understanding their behaviours, needs and vulnerabilities to support them in succeeding in school. You will have high levels of resilience, worked in a similar role and be confident in providing personalised intervention plans for each individuals needs, whilst liaising with several external agencies including senior leadership team, parents, social workers and the pupils themselves. The Behaviour Support worker will be working with children from Yr 7 – 11 who are at risk of expulsion from mainstream who will require additional intervention support to succeed in their education. You would be required to support these children with empathy and unbiased opinion encouraging them to explore new strategies to engaging with the school.

Day to Day of the role:

  • Work closely with school staff, other professionals, parents, and students to identify mentoring needs and facilitate access to mentoring support.
  • Collaborate with agencies to provide specialist support services for students with learning barriers.
  • Develop and implement individual and small group interventions to increase engagement, improve attendance, and boost confidence and self-esteem.
  • Liaise with families of vulnerable pupils to identify issues affecting students and signpost to other support services.
  • Monitor Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), evaluate behaviour and student confidence, and report to the SENDCo.
  • Maintain confidential reports, case notes, care plans, and risk assessments in line with school guidelines.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience working with mental health conditions, challenging behaviours or learning difficulties is a must
  • Experience with children with complex needs
  • Proven ability to promote and safeguard the safety and welfare of students.
  • Personable, approachable, and a self-starter with a willingness to learn and develop new skills.
  • Ability to maintain calm, de-escalate situations, and uphold confidentiality.
  • Experience in monitoring EHCPs and evaluating student progress.
