Job Description :

Positive Employment is currently recruiting for a Legal Assistant for our client a local government organisation in Bristol.

The successful candidate will provide legal support to legal officers and lawyers in the Litigation Regulatory and Community (LRC)Team. Assist the team with litigation and advice across the organisation including all court work and advice officers and committees.

This is initially a 8 month contract with the possibility to extend after that date. For this role you must be available to work in the office every day, with occasional work at home days if needed.

Duties and Responsibilities but not limited to:

  • Assisting with all casework with legal officers and lawyers within the LRC team.
  • Opening and maintaining all files on the case management system.
  • Preparing draft court applications based on precedents for the solicitor to review COP applications, county court eg possessions, injunctions, magistrates court summons.
  • Issuing and serving court documentation in accordance with court rules & providing certificates of service to satisfy the court that documentation serviced in accordance with the court rules.
  • With guidance from case officers liaising with officers, the court, barristers and solicitors for other parties, expert and lay witnesses in relation to court proceedings.
  • With guidance from case officers preparing, filing and serving fully paginated and indexed court bundles in accordance with the court rules.
  • Liaising with the court as needed throughout proceedings.
  • Checking availability of and booking barristers where required.

Personal Requirements:

  • Demonstrate good experience of caseloads, clerical and administrative support in a legal environment.
  • Demonstrate a knowledge of legal terminology, practice and procedure.
  • An ability to communicate effectively at all levels both verbally and in writing and to show good interpersonal skills.
  • Able to demonstrate knowledge and/or experience of equalities and diversity issues.
  • Have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications or equivalent, including the following: Outlook, Word, Excel, Internet Explorer, and have a willingness to learn new applications and technology as appropriate.

Working Hours: 37hrs / 9:00am - 17:30pm / Monday to Friday

Pay: £17.56 p/h

Please note this role is within the scope of IR35.
