Role Overview
This role offers an exciting opportunity for a part-qualified accountant to grow their skills in management accounting. The successful candidate will support financial reporting while taking responsibility for maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the fixed asset register. This position is ideal for an ambitious individual working towards a professional qualification (ACCA, CIMA).
Key Responsibilities
Management Accounting:
1. Management Accounts Support:
• Assist in preparing monthly management accounts, including accruals, prepayments, and journal entries.
• Perform variance analysis and contribute to commentary on financial performance.
2. Financial Analysis:
• Conduct cost analysis and provide insights into profitability and operational efficiency.
• Assisting to prepare financial summaries to aid decision-making by senior management.
Fixed Asset Management:
1. Fixed Asset Register:
• Maintain the fixed asset register, ensuring all additions, disposals, and transfers are recorded accurately.
• Perform periodic reviews and reconciliations of the fixed asset register to ensure compliance with accounting standards.
2. Asset Reporting:
• Prepare monthly depreciation schedules and ensure accurate reporting in management accounts.
• Prepare monthly HP schedules and ensure accurate reporting in management accounts.
3. Capital Expenditure Monitoring:
• Track and report on capital expenditure (CapEx) projects, ensuring they are within budget.
• Assist in reviewing and improving processes for managing and reporting fixed assets.
Month-End and Year-End Processes:
• Contribute to month-end and year-end closing activities, including reconciliations and journal postings.
• Provide data for audits, focusing on fixed asset disclosures and compliance with regulations.
Systems and Processes:
• Assist in enhancing financial systems and processes
• Support the finance team in ensuring accurate data across systems.
Compliance and Internal Controls:
• Ensure compliance with internal policies, accounting standards, and audit requirements.
• Strengthen controls around fixed asset management to mitigate risks.
Ad-Hoc Support:
• Provide ad-hoc analysis and support for special projects as directed by senior finance staff.
Qualifications and Skills
Essential:
• Actively studying towards a recognised accounting qualification (ACCA, CIMA, ACA).
• Previous experience in a finance role, with exposure to management accounting and/or fixed asset management.
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel and financial software.
• Keen attention to detail, especially when handling large datasets.
• Analytical mindset with problem-solving abilities.
Desirable:
• Experience with the accounting systems (e.g Access, Sage etc.)
• Knowledge of IFRS/GAAP standards.
• Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities.
