We are located in Sutton, with good public transport and road links. Central London (Clapham, Victoria) is 25 minutes away. We are on the Surrey border, so journeys do not take long in fact journeys from Kent only take just over 30 minutes by car. We have safe and secure onsite parking with electric charging points.

Main Areas of Responsibility

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Being the Academy Medical Lead
  • Overseeing Student Reception in relation to Medical requirements
  • Working closely with the Student Services Manager ensuring that relevant medical processes are understood and followed
  • Ensuring an up to date copy of HCPs are kept with the student medication
  • Responding to emergency medical situations across the school
  • Ensuring all medication/EpiPens are in date
  • Contacting professionals to seek advice as necessary
  • Liaising with the School Nurses to organise immunisations
  • Attending all meetings for a student with a medical need
  • Being aware of relevant academy and statutory guidance and policies
  • Ensuring the medical register is kept up to date at all times and accessible to all staff 
  • Referring students with a medical need to the school nurse and monitoring until a decision is made
  • Ensuring all Healthcare Plans (HCP) are updated annually
  • Meeting with parents as necessary for a student with a medical need
  • Issuing students with a medical card when evidence of need is provided
  • Liaising with Attendance Officer, Leadership and LA senior EWO when a child has a serious medical need which requires a period of absence
  • Ensuring all medical files are kept securely in a locked cabinet
  • Conferring with Leadership when a student is diagnosed with a medical condition that could affect a member of staff
  • Ensuring annual training takes place for first aiders for our students with a medical need
  • Supporting with initial assessment of student medical requirements
  • Acting as general support within the Student Services Centre
  • Supporting with students referred for unsatisfactory uniform
  • Providing advice and support to students as required
  • Supervision of students whilst waiting for appropriate action to be agreed/taken
  • Referring cases where appropriate to the named person with responsibility for safeguarding and child protection
Qualifications & Experience

We would like to hear from you if you have:

  • Good level of nationally recognised qualifications
  • Sound knowledge of Microsoft software
  • Knowledge and/or ability to learn Bromcom system for input and export of student data
  • Knowledge of what safeguarding and medical for young people means.
  • Knowledge of the range of agencies that work with students and their families
  • Basic knowledge of first aid; e.g. emergency first aid course
  • Knowledge of many of the social issues facing students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
  • Experience of or high motivation to, work in an educational establishment
