Job title: Mental Health Act Administrator
Location: Waterloo Manor Hospital, Selby Road, Garforth, LS25 1NA
Rate Of Pay: £12 an hour
Shift Patterns: Full time, permanent, 40hrs per week.
Information about the Role:
Working as a Mental Health Act Administrator at Waterloo Manor your duties will include the following:
- Act as an advisor on the administration of the MHA and provide all departments with the appropriate section forms and rights leaflets and update these where necessary.
- Receive all papers, check for errors, then arrange for medical scrutiny or scrutinise as appropriate.
- Assist in training for all staff specific to mental health law and legislation.
- Ensure the MHA Tracker is up to date at all times and is compliant with audit requirements.
- Attending to KP90 requirements.
- Ensure that correct copies of papers are filed in the medical case notes and the original papers are kept by the MHA Administrator in the patient’s legal file.
- Send out letters to the nearest relative and all correspondence related to detained patients, and any relevant letters to patients.
- Keep a register of all detained patients and send reminders to all Consultants relating to renewals, consent to treatment, expiry dates and appeals.
- Liaise with the Tribunal Service and the Care Quality Commission (CQC), and the non-executive directors and independent hospital managers to arrange manager’s appeals
- Provide managers with statics, the Department of Health, and information for CQC visits as required.
- Be the named addressee for all correspondence for the hospital in relation to detained patients.
- Complete and audit of the patient’s legal file and the ward-based case notes on a monthly basis.
Information about the Service:
The service is gender specific, working with women who have complex mental health issues. Waterloo Manor is the largest female Personality Disorder service in the United Kingdom that provides assessment and treatment services for women with complex mental health & disorders. The Hospital provides both low secure and rehabilitation services.
Necessary Experience or Qualifications to work a Mental Health Act Administrator:
· Educated to degree level or equivalent
· Previous experience as a Mental Health Act Administrator
· Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
· Excellent Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook skills
· Advanced internet use skills
· LLM - Mental Health Law (desirable)
