Ornithologist Responsibilities
In this role, you will work alongside this consultancy's team of Ecologists, Landscape Architects and Design Planners, whilst carrying out the following duties:
- Leading and conducting ornithological surveys.
- Analysing data, presenting results, conducting desk-based research, gathering relevant data, and preparing technical reports.
- Experience with Ecological Impact Assessments for sensitive species, sites, or populations, and completing Shadow Habitats Regulations Assessments is highly desirable.
- Supporting additional ecological surveys that align with your skills and career goals, including those related to water voles, otters, badgers, bats, habitats, etc.
- Providing ecological and ornithological guidance to clients, stakeholders, and project teams.
- Mentoring and supporting colleagues interested in ornithology, sharing expertise to promote their professional development.
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, contractors, and regulatory bodies.
Ornithologist Requirements
- A degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
- Strong bird identification and ornithological surveying skills and techniques.
- Willingness to travel for work.
- Knowledge of UK wildlife legislation and the conservation status of UK bird species.
- Proven experience in report writing with attention to detail and high standards.
- Understanding of scientific data collection methods, data analysis, and proficiency in accurate and clear data recording and storage.
- CIEEM membership is desirable.
- Experience with GIS software is an advantage.
- A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
