Pastoral Support Officer (Permanent Role)

Location: ExeterSchool Type: SEN SchoolPosition: Full-Time, PermanentWorking Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 3:30pmSalary Range: £24,702 - £26,421

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Pastoral Support Officer to join the team at a nurturing SEN school in Exeter. The school provides a supportive environment for secondary pupils with communication and interaction needs who learn at a primary level.

Role Overview: As a Pastoral Support Worker, you will report to the Pastoral Lead and be responsible for working on Early Help. This role focuses on support pupils and their families in developing strategies, resolving difficulties, and preventing problems from escalating. Your role will involve working closely with pupils and their families both at home and in school to remove barriers to learning and promote general well-being. You will collaborate with a variety of professionals to encourage positive and sustainable outcomes for children and their families.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support pupils and their families to develop effective strategies and resolve issues.
  • Work proactively to prevent problems from escalating by providing early help.
  • Engage with a range of professionals, including mental health nurses, health visitors, therapists, psychologists, social workers, and family support workers/practitioners.
  • Help remove barriers to learning and well-being for pupils by providing targeted support.
  • Foster positive relationships with families to encourage sustainable and positive outcomes for children.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in a school pastoral role working with both pupils and families.
  • Demonstrated ability to work on early help initiatives is advantageous.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with pupils, families, and professionals.
  • Compassionate and empathetic approach to supporting pupils and families.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
