Location:   The Tower School, Epping

Salary:        Up to £27,000 per annum

Hours:        37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday 8am - 4pm

Contract:    Permanent, Term Time only

As part of our continued growth, we now have a fantastic opportunity for a Positive Behaviour and Learning Mentor to join our close-knit team at The Tower School part of Options Autism.

About the role

A fantastic opportunity for an experienced Behaviour and Learning Mentor! Understanding and experience of working with pupils and young people with ASD and co-occurring, complex needs is essential.

To work collaboratively with pupils and parents/carers to promote positive behaviour among all pupils, and to help pupils overcome barriers to learning such as challenging behaviour. To coach, support and train staff to implement behaviour interventions. 

To plan, deliver and evaluate the impact of behaviour interventions and to work with external agencies as required.

Responsibilities 

  • Assess the needs of pupils and identify those most in need of help to overcome barriers to learning, making sure these pupils have individual behaviour support plans.
  • Plan, deliver and evaluate the impact of activities to use directly with pupils with challenging behaviour in a variety of settings, including one-to-one, small group and/or whole-class support. Coach staff to participate in delivering these activities.
  • Support the reintegration of disaffected pupils and those who have been absent due to suspension.
  • Lead supervision of pupils suspended, on internal reflection or otherwise not working to a normal timetable. 
  • Coach, mentor and empower pupils to be able to make informed choices about their own learning, behaviour and attendance, and to understand the links between these.
  • Build and maintain productive relationships with all pupils, acting as a role model and mentor.

About the school

The Tower School is an independent special day school for pupils ages 11 – 18 years who have a primary diagnosis of Autism. Our dedicated team work together to ensure successful outcomes for pupils who will often arrive at the school with a troubled view of education and life.

This opportunity is based in Epping, Essex, CM16 4BA and is located on Epping High Road within easy access of J26 of the M25 and Junction 5 of the M11. Epping is a lovely market town in Essex and just 17 miles (30km) from the centre of London. It is surrounded by Epping Forest and the River Roding and River Lea valleys. The school is just a 10-minute walk from Epping station on the London Undergrounds central line which will have you in London’s West End in under 50 minutes.
