Primary School Caretaker

• Job Type: Full-time (Split Shifts)
• Location: DN4
• Salary: £12.82-£13.50 per hour

We are seeking a dedicated Primary School Caretaker to join one of our key client schools in the DN4 area. Our school is a large 2 form entry school, part of a multi-academy trust who hold children in the centre of everything they do. This role is crucial in ensuring the safety, security, and maintenance of our school premises and plays a pivotal role in the day-to-day operations of the school.

Day-to-day of the role:

• Oversee the opening of the school premises in the morning and secure all buildings and gates in the evening.
• Conduct regular checks and maintenance of the school facilities to ensure a safe environment for both students and staff.
• Manage and lead a team of cleaners, ensuring all areas are kept clean and tidy.
• Liaise with the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) to report on issues and progress.
• Communicate effectively with contractors to coordinate maintenance and repair works.
• Hold keyholding responsibilities for the school, ensuring the security of the premises.
• Maintain awareness and compliance with health and safety regulations, including Legionella and COSHH.
• Support the school’s safeguarding policies and contribute to a safe educational environment.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Proven experience in maintenance roles.
• Previous experience working in a school environment is desirable.
• Must have or be willing to obtain an enhanced DBS check.
• Knowledge of health and safety regulations, specifically Legionella and COSHH.
• Strong leadership skills to manage a team of cleaners.
• Excellent communication skills to interact with SLT and contractors.
• Understanding of safeguarding practices within a school setting.
