Product / Stock Merchandiser

Salford Quays

Hours: 9am – 5.30pm, Monday to Friday.

Hybrid: 3 days office, 2 days WFH

£30,000 – 32,000 Per annum

Working for an established marketing/creative company within the promotional products arena based at Salford Quays.

The Role:

To continually review the product offering within selected client groups, optimising product development and selection, replenishment order volumes, promotion and discounting decisions – with the aim of maximising sales and commercial return.

This role would suit an experienced assistant merchandiser with 3-4 years' experience or someone already in a merchandiser role looking for a new challenge.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate the product range, considering demand data, price points, categories, aging and seasonal phasing. The evaluation should also include feedback from market, key stakeholders, internal team, channel sales data, category and price point analysis (including comparison with other company clients and the wider retail market) and web analytics.
  • This evaluation should inform recommended actions, such as:
    • Marketing activity to drive sales of aged or surplus stocks.
    • Moving items to sale or placing them on the web page.
    • Determining when to discontinue, refresh or replace items.
    • Proposing new items for introduction.
  • Any proposals for new items should include the number of styles, ordering quantities and price points – to optimise sales without splitting or cannibalising sales of other items in the range.
  • Proposals would be subject to initial discussion within the team. The Product Analyst will then present the proposal to the client, outlining the data, proposed actions and rationale for approval.
  • Identify slow-moving stock and highlight it for marketing activity or inclusion in upcoming campaigns to push sales without discounting.
  • Liaise with Account Managers on aged stock and offer special prices to customers based on previous order history.
  • Review site categorisation, photography quality and page positioning to ensure optimum visibility and reach.
  • Collaborate with the commercial, IT and inventory teams on agreeing, scheduling and arranging system updates to product pricing in March and September, including FX adjustments for the coming period.
  • Work with the investment team to justify investment requests based on sales, lead times and launch data from similar products, using knowledge of the account, events and planned marketing as client intelligence to support analyses instead of relying on general rules.
  • Taking responsibility for determining the price points of offshore-produced items, ensuring all cost elements are considered, including additional finance and warehouse costs.
  • In conjunction with the Inventory Planner, review stock reports each week to agree replenishment quantities, considering the lifecycle of the item, usage and lead times, and any planned new item introductions.
  • Decisions on replenishment orders and new item introductions should consider the stock investment thresholds set for each client. Staying within investment thresholds and cash invested is a key performance indicator for this role.
