Butler Rose is proud to be partnering with a leading manufacturer in the Plymouth area to recruit an experienced Production Manager. This is an exciting opportunity for a driven and accomplished individual to lead all Manufacturing and Production activities on site, ensuring optimum efficiency, outstanding quality, and high levels of employee engagement.
The RoleReporting to the Senior Manufacturing Manager, the Production Manager will oversee day-to-day operations across multiple shifts. This role is pivotal to achieving operational excellence through effective leadership, strategic planning, and the implementation of lean manufacturing principles.
The Production Manager will:
- Lead the deployment and execution of business strategies, ensuring alignment with company objectives and KPIs.
- Plan and organise resources (people, process, materials, and equipment) to achieve production targets, on-time and in-full.
- Manage performance across all shifts, driving accountability, engagement, and continuous improvement among Team Leaders and production staff.
- Promote a culture of safety, quality, and efficiency, ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.
- Implement lean manufacturing techniques and data-driven improvements to enhance productivity, reduce downtime, and optimise processes.
- Collaborate cross-functionally, particularly with Engineering and Supply Chain, to ensure operational efficiency and material availability.
- Develop and coach Team Leaders, fostering a culture of high performance, employee progression, and talent development.
- Take ownership of OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness), analysing data and implementing measures to improve set-up, changeover, and cycle times.
- Lead departmental communication, driving engagement through daily and weekly meetings, 1:1s, and team briefings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Achieve production targets while maintaining quality and delivery standards.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives, applying lean methodologies and problem-solving approaches.
- Identify and resolve production variances, escalating issues as necessary.
- Participate in leadership meetings, customer and supplier visits, and key strategy projects.
- Deliver effective performance management, including defining expectations, reviewing performance, and implementing training and development.
Person Specification:The ideal candidate will possess:
- A strong background in operational management within an engineering or manufacturing environment, with proven experience leading large teams.
- A professional leadership or management qualification (or equivalent experience).
- Demonstrable success in implementing and sustaining Lean Manufacturing principles.
- Excellent people-management and coaching skills, with a track record of driving performance and employee engagement.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on continuous improvement.
- Flexibility to travel within the UK and occasionally overseas as required.
Package
- Salary up to £60,000
- 33 days leave increasing to 38 after one year (inclusive of BH)
