National Trust

Job Location : Saddlescombe, UK

Posted on : 10/03/2025 - Valid Till : 21/04/2025

Job Description :
Summary

Join the South Downs National Trust team and help restore nature at Chyngton Brooks, on the Cuckmere River.

If you are up for leading the Chyngton Brooks project - an opportunity to create salt marsh and mud flats, engage with local communities and create sustainable access – we want to hear from you. This 12-month fixed term role is your chance to make history. Are you up for the challenge?

What it's like to work here

You’ll join an upbeat and dynamic team, who are passionate about creating an inclusive and progressive place to work, visit and volunteer. You’ll find there is never a dull moment.

The South Downs portfolio covers a diverse range of sites, with teams working across the portfolio from Pound Common Farm in the west to Birling Gap in the East. This post could be based at one of two of our sites - Saddlescombe Farm near Brighton or on the Slindon Estate near Arundel.

What you'll be doing

For over 30 years people have looked at Cuckmere River in East Sussex, the navigational cut and the surrounding marshes and wondered what would happen if the area was restored to salt marsh and mud flats. The Chyngton Brooks project is part of that story.

You’ll lead the Chyngton Brooks project, run the Project Board, and work with the local team, national specialists and our Environment Agency colleagues. You’ll be moving the project from a planning application to reality – watching the first tide flood the brooks.

Who we're looking for

We’d love to hear from you if you're:

  • able to demonstrate experience of successfully delivering complex end to end project/programme management, including defining resources, leading procurement securing project teams and matrix management across multiple projects/programmes
  • a Professional with technical knowledge and skills in project management demonstrated by a recognised project (AMP PMQ/Prince) or programme management (MSP) qualification
  • able to evidence ongoing CPD in your career to date
  • a flexible thinker and problem-solver, skilled at negotiating and building productive networks, and confident in using your expertise to influence decisions with senior leaders
