The Role

To contribute to achieving excellence in teaching and learning through innovative and excellent practice. You will be expected to create effective and stimulating learning opportunities for all students through high quality teaching, learning and assessment. Enthusing students by making the subject content relevant and current with a strong link to employers and the local economy. You will be required to monitor each student’s academic performance and provide feedback for improvements, supervise and motivate students to achieve their academic and personal goals. We offer a range of courses within the social sciences GCSE Sociology and Psychology as well as at AS/A2, it is our most popular A level subjects and we have multiple groups. Specific experience of previously delivering AS/A2 Psychology would be an advantage and we would welcome applicants who could also deliver Sociology/Criminology.

Key Responsibilities

1.         To contribute fully to the mission and values statement of the College ensuring its effective implementation in all aspects of College life.

2.         To contribute to the College and curriculum area strategic objectives and to actively engage in the annual review.

3.         To be aware of national developments in subject area and update knowledge and skills on an annual basis.

4.         To plan, prepare and deliver high quality lessons to achieve effective management of the learning process

5.         Plan and use a range of effective and appropriate teaching and learning techniques to engage and motivate students and encourage independence and student autonomy

6.         Establish a purposeful and motivating learning environment where students feel safe, secure, confident and valued

7.         Establish and maintain procedures with students which promote and maintain appropriate behaviour, communication and respect for others, while challenging discriminatory behaviour and attitudes.

8.         To set, mark and record work in accordance with College and School Assessment policies.

9.         To track all students’ progress and attendance in accordance with agreed College systems and policies

10.     To provide a balance of appropriate teaching styles and learning experiences.

11.     To be aware of external/internal assessment procedures and to play and appropriate part in their          implementation.

12.     Evaluate and improve own communication skills to maximise effective communication and overcome barriers

13.     To liaise with Assistant Dean in contributing to the design of programmes and teaching approaches which will enable curriculum areas to achieve high standards and value added

14.     To liaise with Assistant Dean and curriculum teams in contributing to the administration necessary to support the teaching, learning and assessment within the subject area

15.     To work with colleagues with relevant expertise to identify and address additional Digital,  English and Maths skills for development within the subject area.

16.     To review own professional development needs and to participate fully in future training and development17.       To communicate and consult with parents, carers and students including Parent’s Evening, Welcome Evenings, events and open evenings

18.         To ensure that all students in the subject area comply with College’s policies and procedures

19.         To provide enrichment opportunities that are exciting, motivating and enhance the student experience.

20.         To ensure learners are supported with a well prepared VLE and resources for independent study.

21.         A knowledge and appreciation of the different needs of learners and effective strategies to ensure all learners make progress
